Steering Wheel removal ---HELP ME---

Post by 90legacygx »

I Have pulled prodded and unscrewed and I can't seem to get my damn steering wheel horn cover off.

I have a 1990 Legacy GX wagan 2.2. How , oh how do I get the damn thing off - I can't find any caps with screws behind them or anything and with the amount of force I have already pulled with I am thinking it is about to break :(

Cheers

IIRC, there are two screws set into the back somewhere towards the bottom of the center section (if the steering wheel is in the straight ahead position). There are two screws back there, but I may be wrong about the location.

There are two screws that you need to get from the bottom and two others that you have to get from the back. The steering councel trim may be in the way at certain angles for the back ones. Use your key to keep it unlocked (steering wheel) and spin it until you can get at them. That should be it. Oh wait, actually I don't recall 100% off hand but you may need to remove the steering councel trim too. I can't remember. Hope that helps. :)

Ah, different wheel. We have this ugly two spoke job. Sometimes the centers just pop off (you may have to work it) and there should be screws underneath or just the nut that holds it to the column.

have you tried the liberty RS board? it seems that they'd have more experience with removing steering wheels, as well as the layout of yours.

90legacygx,
I like your doorhandle inserts and your hvac grilles.. those custom, or did you mix and match from other interiors? hard to tell from the pic.

Hi, that pic is not of my car (just the same wheel). Iassume the parts have just been painted.

answer - PULL LIKE A MOFO (if i recall correctly - dont hold me to it :$)
i think thats wot i had to do to get it off.

Then to get the actual wheel off... now that wasnt easy.

turns out - mechanic had way -
undo nut, then screw back on halfway.
Thump hard on top, bottom, left, right etc repeating. then just slides off :)
