weekend from hell (semi long)

Post by jake15 »

well this last weekend my car has been through hell, but its back  here's a breakdown of my weekend:

Saturday-
I was driving to my dads shop, and i see that my car is almost overheating, i manage to get to the shop and check it out, there is not much coolant so i go to put some in (i've been having troubles with my brand-new radiator) and it just starts dripping out. since the shop is busy i have to work on the car around back, so i take the radiator out, and we test it, it checks out. the lower radiator hose looked a little bad, so i replaced it. while its all apart, i decide to take off the a/c system just because. so i reasemble everything and start to fill it up and it just starts dripping out of the damn radiator again. so i take it all apart again and after further inspection we realize the radiator endtank is leaking (endtank was crooked and didnt seal right from the factory) so we took it off and resealed it, i put it back together and drove to work. end of crisis one of the weekend.

Sunday:
so i'm driving to church, coast in neutral to a stopsign, light turns green and i put it in drive and start to go. but as i'm going there is this sudden lurch and a loud clunk noise, i think "well, that was wierd....." but it works fine, so i keep on going and get there fine. but on my way home, i do the same coast in neutral to a stop sign and stop, put it in drive, and start to go, the wheels give a little chirp, then there is this god awful clunking and shuddering, so i put it in neutral as i'm still rolling and pull off to the side of the road, i put it in drive, to see what happens, and it moves a little and then goes CLUNK. right about now i'm thinking "shit, something else broke" so i call my dad and we tow my car to the shop, put it in the air and drain the front dif. fluid, and broken off teeth of my pinion shaft fall into the bucket. about now i'm thinking "looks like i'm getting my 5speed earlier than planned" not. we put the plug back in and go home so i can mourn the death of my front differential (broke 8 teeth off of the pinion shaft and 1 off of the differential)

Monday:
Fixed the tranny. basically we took parts from a 96 legacy LS tranny we had and used parts from my transmission to make a working tranny, but the gear ratio in the 96 was a 4.11 not a 3.9, so the rear diff has to be changed (bye-bye VLSD) in goes the open 4.11  one good side to this is whole weekend is that if i hadnt of broken my transmission it would have burned up in a month or so. one of the paper gaskets in the transmission was almost ruptured, and when it fully ruptured the tranny would have lost all ine pressure, burning everything up, that would have been fun. another good side to this weekend also is that my AWD now works, hooray. no more crazy wheelspin for me :D i dont know why i posted this........ just needed to vent a little i guess. i'll get pics of the teeth/ pinion shaft tomorrow.

CN: radiator broke on saturday and i fixed it, also removed a/c. transmission broke on sunday. fixed tranny on monday, but gear ratio changed to 4.11 and lost rear VLSD, also fixed awd

haha, yeah i know.... but i always do that, i think the first time i somehow sheared a piece of tooth off of the pinion shaft, and when i was leaving the stop sign it got picked up into the gears and slaughtered them.

Yeah, and since that damn ugly lump of VLSD is hanging around wasting valuable real estate and not impressing chicks, I'd be glad, as a friendly gesture, to take it off your hands.

exactly what parts do you need to change to a 4.11 besides a rear diff. if i can do it without changing the entire trans i want to do it well prefferably 4.44 but you get the idea.

in the words of vh1 UPGRADE!!!!!!11111!one

haha, sorry steve, the diff stays with me

to do the swap you need the front diff, pinion shaft, new gaskets, rear diff, gears in the rear of the transmission (not sure you need these, but i used them just in case), and someone who knows what they're doing. lol

the one in the back of the trans not the back back.

like jake said the gears in hte rear of the trans.

jake when you complete the 411 transformation and you need a place for your auto to go when you do a 5mt swap for the right price i think i may be able to be accomating

You don't need to touch anything in the rear of the transmission. The center reduction gear is 1:1
