High Milage Boost
I'm running a 1994 Leg Turbo Wagon with 426000km's on it.
I'm planning on a putting a FMIC and MBC on it, just wondering should I stick to 12/13ish psi due to the age of the engine ?
Thanks.

are you running the stock turbo?to go any higher then 13psi I think you'll need a fcd setup.in terms of the milage I really don't know, but I probably wouldn't worry to much if the engine is in good running order

Yeah, I do plan on just keeping with teh stock turbo, for now at least.
I should be able to get 250hp with stock turbo, FMIC, boost controller and an exhaust/up/down pipe right ?
I was just wondering how safe it would be on an engine that has been driven so much. It current performs just fine, i can't notice any knocks or weird engine issues.
427000km's and counting.

I don't know man. I was pushing 15 psi in my legacy and I pushed the pistons out of the engine compartment.
Ya 15 psi out your butt!don't listen to that guy he doesn't even own a turbo. If you are only planning on running low teens psi,are putting on a fmic and engine is running pretty good I think you'd be ok.An up pipe and turbo back would be very good.you have to have a boost gauge too however if you plan to control boost.DISCLAIMER,i'm not a mechanic so take that into account.any time you do a mod on your car you run the risk of something negative happening.I am also going on what i've heard from others as I am running pretty stock do to money issues.if I was you though and had the money I would do it

another thing too,the mods you are talking about can add up pretty fast$$ if you are worried about engine life I would keep the milage in mind.if you lose the engine are going to get another turbo car?a new engine for that car?what i'm getting at is will you be able to reuse the parts?you can always sell them if you dont get another turbo.I'd probably put on a nice saab 900 tmic set up as they are cheap and should support 13 psi.I might skip the up pipe and get a cheaper dp,like a hks instead of a perrin.mbc and a gauge shouldnt run to much either.mods are an investment just something to chew on

yeah, running 15psi on a closed deck engine and blowing pistons out seems like a fat load of crap..
anywho, my plan is basically this
1: boost guage
2: FMIC or saab 900 tmic
3: manual boost controller.
then worry about the exhaust bits down the road some. if i did blow the motor i'd just pick up a replacement for now. so without swapping any internals all of the old parts would be swappable with minimal effort.
i want this car to continue to last much longer but just wnat a tad more oomph so there is not a large need to go too crazy with teh parts and $$$

The new wrxs come equipped with a catalytic converter placed just before the turbo . . . some kinda emissions bs prompted this. The removal of the cat on those cars decreases lag time and frees up a little bit of hp. Since we don't have this "feature," it's unnecessary to replace this part.

good to know about the up-pipe,I knew we didn't have pre cat,but thought our up-pipe was restrictive. If it isn't bennificial to go with an aftermarket u/p thats one less thing to worry about

I'm pretty sure that there aren't any differences in uppipe diameters. I think it's pretty well matched to our header design.
As for running high boost on a high mileage turbo leg, my car has 190,600+ miles on it and I'm running almost 17psi with a big turbo and sti intercooler. Yesterday I ran with my friend's chipped m3 with an exhaust and lw flywheel and walked away from him. Pulled into a parking lot afterwards and the car was idling like new:)

Turboback is the biggest thing you can do for more oomph. The downpipe design on these cars is horrible and both of your cats more than likely have as many miles as the engine. Replacing this will let the car breathe much better, it has been said many times that this makes the biggest difference. Put a K&N airfilter in the stock box and that is good to go.
