Xephyr raises the bar: 452whp on pump gas...

I thought some of you might be interested in Mark's latest endeavors. Since he no longer runs an EJ22T bottom end, I thought this would be a more appropriate forum than the engine forum.

A little background: Last Spring Mark decided he wanted to switch over to an EJ257 and see what it could do. At that point he got 381whp on his set up. But he also found that he really was pushing the efficiency of his turbo with the added .3l of displacement. So, he had TEC in Golden make him a new turbo. It is essentially a custom 60-1 Garret. He went to Tarmac and had them weld up a new Up-pipe and Down-pipe assembly, including a divorced wastegate. These are the results now that he has dyno tuned it. You can view a complete write up of it in these two threads:
http://www.awdpirates.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=488
http://www.awdpirates.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=382
Over the last few weeks he has played around with three different AR's by changing the wheel. This most recent run from a couple of days ago is with an 82 AR wheel.

I got a chance to ride in the car last Saturday. It is head snapping fast. Dizzy claims that the acceleration made him dizzy  And did I mention that this is on Colorado piss water pump gas rated at 91 octane?

That's impressive to say the least :). I wish I had the money to build something that insane!

I got a ride in an 11.5 second WRX, and that was wild. Easy on the shifts (even though it was a dog box), and I was just sitting in the passenger seat going. "woooaaahhhh *shift* woooaaahhhhh *shift* woooaaaahhhh *shift*" It was the most impressive car I've ever ridden in. JDM EJ20G with AVCS heads and an FP Green running 29psi on 116. I don't know his figures, but I doubt it was 450 whp. That must be a MONSTER!

I bet that was a ride you will never forget!

Even though it is the most powerful that Mark's car has ever been, it wasn't the best ride he's ever given me. I've been in the car on the Highway patrol track. Hitting 120mph on the back straight and hitting a bump that jumped the car. lap after lap after lap. And the car shoots flames as well.
I didn't really say anything last year when his remarks were stickied in the engine forum because I was kind of new around here and didn't want to establish myself as "Xephyr's friend". I prefer to stand on my own knowledge and experience...

Damn! I'd like to know what kind of times he'd run.

Well, remember we are up at 6000ft for our drag track, but he is expecting to get banned this spring. Bandimere requires a roll cage for anything faster than 12.0. We figure he should be hitting mid to high 11's up here. Down at sea level it would likely be a 10 second car (We usually figure subtract 1.2 seconds from our elevated times to get a sea level number)...

I would guess high 12's if the driveline is up to it, and maybe low 12's at sea level, maybe.

10 second car ? c'mon now. that's 600 hp 2400lb territory

Did you look closely at that dyno? Peak HP is not the only thing to judge this on. He has a ridiclous amount of power under the curve. And he has a custom MRT dogbox with gear ratios pretty perfectly matched to his power band. He has a complete STi V3 rear end, Tien Flexes, every brace imagineable. Mark is not some Joey who just slaps a bunch of parts together. He modelled it all out and estimated what his hp # would be within 5hp before he even put the 82AR wheel in there. He ran mid 12's at this altitude when he had 75hp less than he has now. And on his way to the dyno the other night he beat an EVO that has over 500whp on C16 and runs low 12's at Bandi. He knows this because the guy showed up at MacSport while he was tuning his car going on about how some RS just beat him  The MacSport guys just replied that that wasn't an RS...

He is guessing (and I trust his guesses) that he should hit right around 11.8 this spring when he runs it. And I don't know where you pull your sea level conversions from, but we lose more than .8 seconds up here. By my math that does make it a 10 second car...

For those of you who were saying that there is no way this is a 10 second car, I have provided a link detailing last weekend's exploits

Mark is a road racer and a shitty drag launcher, but if you read the thread you will see that there is ZERO doubt that this car could break the 10 second mark at sea level with the right tires and driver...

the evidence certainly shows that mid-high11's might be on tap

but breaking 10 seconds ? There is a world of difference between 11.8 and 10 seconds...unless the car is very heavily modified for drag, its hard to put down enough traction to pull under 10, regardless of the power of the car, and I still think the power to weight ratio falls well short of what it takes to break 10 seconds

subtracting 1.2 seconds might make sense when you are running 14 but not at 10

still a very impressive car

check out this link

http://www.stealth316.com/2-calc-hp-et-mph.htm

this suggests to get below 10 seconds, the car would have to have current power, but be reduced to well under 2000 lb,

OR

have current weight and have around 600HP

I was under the impression Matt meant 10 second car as in 10 < t < 11, not t < 10. I could see a 10.5 being feasible at sea level.

Hale's formula is messed up in the link the prof provided.

Nonetheless, im with the prof. The altitude correction isn't nearly that much, esp with a turbo app.

sti's generally run a 13.7 or so up here stock, and i've seen some stock sti's at sea level run in the 12's so i wouldnt be too suprised.

I think you need to do some more math. This car is north of 600hp! Take the corrected whp and a driveline loss of even 35-40% And you are over 600hp.

Or, even if you reduce the altitude factor to say; .8, this car would still be able to run high 10's at sea level...

thoes times prove only one thing, and thats that he really is an inept dragracer. and he already admitted that.

thoes trap times with a good driver will get 11.5, i have a friend with a sti, green,dr750 ect on 91 and 23psi, and shitty tires he borowed off his audi (he sold his wheels before getting new ones) run 11.9 at 118.xx before he went to arizona where he put down a 11.5 at 120.xx in flag.

sea level with a good driver and tires is an easy 10.
