will a 91 ej22 fit in place of my 98 ej25 of my legacy gt? and can i use the intake from the ej25 and will the wiring hook up to the crank sensors? Im looking to put a ej22 that i can pick up for like 185$ while i work on the ej25 or perhaps find a ej22t block. Any help would be apreciated.

Nope. It will fit, but your DOHC engine has an extra sensor for cam position that won't be found on the Ej22. And the manifolds are totally different and won't cross over.
What exactly is wrong with your Ej254?

I don't think that's correct, Matt; the DOHC engine still only uses one cam angle sensor. You may need to use the stock one instead of the EJ25 one if they connect to the harness differently, though.
You'll need to use the EJ25 intake manifold but with the EJ22T throttle body (or at least throttle position sensor).
Use as much of the stock wiring as possible, including the harness under the intake manifold.
The swap actually isn't too complicated. Jason did it on his 1990 non-turbo:

You shouldn't have the IAC issues he did, though; I believe your harness will plug right into the EJ25's IAC valve.

i spun a bearing on cylinder 1 or 2, broke a rod and smashed up a piston, fun times.
The motor im looking at has a cam angle sensor just as the ej25 does. If i use the manifold off the 25 all the wiring should hook right up,. just bolt the sensors that the ej22 doesn't have on to it from the ej25(might not have the knock sensor), that is as long as the intake plenum bolts on, im going to take another look at it but it looks identical, possibly like you said a different throttle body, but i don't see why a little more air flow would require a change. o2 sensor and maf should compensate for the smaller engine size, although timeing curve might be off. The ej22 is sohc but has the double exhast ports that will bolt right up.
If anyone has a bottom end rods pistons crank and block, near ny, let me know. sport compact show in carlise might have something this week end.(edit: for a ej25 sorry about that)

I have a whole EJ22 disassembled in my kitchen. Rods, caps, and bearings are all mixed up, however, but if you want anything let me know.

sucess, quite the pain tho kept running into problmes, they broke 2 injectors when they pulled hte motor at the junk yard, so i had to find some more cuz they were different than my 25. had to drill 2 exhaust studs, and everyother bolt came out or went in harder than hell. but she lives again, so happy to have my car back, do miss the extra horses. see if i don't run into a 25 in a couple months.
at the cost of a 25, i can kill ten ej22 before i match the price, as long as i don't count my time or labor...... how well does open deck ej22 respond to turbo? anyone?

It's not hard. I swapped to turbo N/A in a day without help. Bigggest time waster was searching for stuff to plug the unused oil and coolant lines.

Man, you guys are sick. It takes me like 4 afternoons to just change my shocks. Then again, I don't have a garage - I'm lying on my back in an alley in downtown baltimore on broken glass. All my tools are a 10 block walk away - and the nearest auto parts store is a 20 minute drive.

I do it outside, but I have all the tools handy and that makes all the difference in the world. I think I could actually swap an engine faster than doing the suspension, so don't feel bad. It's the seemingly smaller jobs that kill the most time. Even with boats - in some cases it's almost faster to swap a motor than do simple electronics installs.

yea it is nice to see that the good idea that they had in earlier years hasn't changed a whole lot. although im not sure what to do about this egr light. the 91 intake does not have a place for the egr assembly nor does the head have a hole in it for the egr pipe. at the moment i have what ever sensor was hooked to it on there just for the wires but it doesn't go anywhere, therefore i have a check engine light. any ideas? im going to try and just set the assembly in there with all the vacuum lines hooked up correctly but without the exhaust gas tub or the main hook up to the intake attached to anything and hope the light goes away. Other than that engine code everything else is good.
