Improving 90/91 Legacy rear end looks...

Post by czo79 »

Although some disagree on this one...I and many other prefer the later 92-94 legacy style rear end...essentially the lights and trunk strip...that is all red, while the early legacies have a whitish band on the top and bottom of the red, seperated by chrome strips. I've been thinking about how to improve this. To swap in a later style rear, one would definately need to change the bumper and trunk lid. Maybe the rear quarter panels too. In addition, one might need to fashion a mount or way to attach the lights (not sure) and some wiring modification maybe. Sounds complex, and expensive. What if there was some way to make the whitish strips on the early legacies red? And then maybe black out the chrome strips? I think this would be a big improvement...So I've been trying to think of an effective way to get this to be red. I used nail polish on my red front suby emblem. I don't think that would work for this. I've though about spray paint...but I don't think it would be translucent enough...or if it could be made to look even. Or if it could look good with the other stock red part. I've though about lots of that red lens repair tape, but it would have lines all over it between the peices of tape, and you might need a couple layers to get the right colour red and so on...maybe some translucent contact paper in red would work, if you had very large peices and could cut so it could be installed with minimal lines...and if you could heat it or something that would get a better fit...shrink it down a little. I don't know, does anyone have any great ideas? My friend suggested if you could open up the lenses, that it would be easier to apply whatever color inside between the layers that make up the lens.
Just some thoughts
