How much have you spent?
How much have you8 guys spent modding and doing major repair work to their leggy. Major is replacing the engine, tranny etc., anything around 500 bucks. I'd estimate my work at $2,700.

$300 to buy the wagon.
$3500 max but this is with the supercharger upgrade, two engine rebuilds, new clutch, shocks, brakes, and ALL the extra NO2 crap that I purchased (enough to hook up 3 cars), extra blocks, extra heads, injectors manifolds and so on.

Engine rebuild costs.
Rebuild heads $150-175
Full gasket set $120
Pistons $120
Rings $50
Clutch $150-$400
Misc $100
Total Cost $690-965 for basically a new engine with new clutch if the bearings are in good shape.
If you can somehow get a set of new/rebuilt heads ahead of time, then you can actually do this in a weekend (but a long one!) but most likely you will be down for about a week.
Look here for a FAQ and tips.

About $700 in repears.
Mods - another $600. It would cost more to put the stuff in the car, if I didn't have a 50% discount at one of the shops.
That is not including normal wear replacements (belts, CV boots), and basic services (oil changes).

Upgrades - turbo rims, rear brakes, stereo, and a few misc. stuff coming to around $700.
Up keep - LCA, tires, half-shaft, ball joint, plugs, misc. is probably around $500.
Someday I'll be out of school and won't be poor and then the money starts getting spent.

Upkeep comes to about a grand that I've spent, and probably $1500 my parents have spent, and they also bought the car for $6500 in 2000.
I've spent a little over $1000, for STi take-offs, Group N rear tops, WRX front brakes, and everything to put in a turbo Legacy rear sway bar.

Thankfully the ghetto garage tends to be self supporting. In January when I blew my motor, I happened to sell a tranny the same day for what my replacment block cost. Last month when I blew my tranny, I sold a block for a bit more than the replacement cost me. It seems to be circular...
