ok so its been a long time since ive been on here. ever since i sold the subby ive regretted that decision so much. hopefully some of you remember me. anyways im going to get a 93 sport sedan for $200 bucks. the catch, the trannies (it's an auto) going out. so if anyone knows where i can get a used one or a rebuild kit let me know. i cant wait to get this thing on the road and start wasting all those hondas again. thanks for all the help in advance.
Uhh.. good luck? You're picking this thing up for $200, which is an awesome price, lemme tell you. (it's what I paid for mine, too!) Why not just do a 5sp swap? You're not into this for much, and the tuning potential in an SS, combined with the longevity (debateable) of a 5sp, you're not going to want an AT for much longer anyhow. See what you can do about coming up with the money for it.. It's probably the better long-term choice, IMO. Check the Library, or search here --Josh(Legacy777) has a writeup on the 5sp/AWD swap, which has a parts list, including part numbers, and estimated prices. www.surrealmirage.com/subaru/swap/swap.html
hmmmmm, i'll have to check into that and weigh the price differences. what i really want to do is drop a dog box in it but thats way out of the picture for now. i guess i hadnt really thought about dropping a manual in it yet.
You could probably do the 5mt swap for about as much as you'll pay for a new(used from another party) turbo 4eat or to have it rebuilt. Now if you're going to rebuild it yourself then it would probably be cheaper then the swap but the benefits of the swap, out way that IMO.

It's not tough to rebuild a 5mt, just keep track of the interlock pins because they are small and get lost easily. Also remember where they go. Other than that, its pretty simple although it can be like a jigsaw puzzle.
GRRRR i called the guy i was going to buy the legacy from, ready to give him the money and drive it home and he sold it to someone else. The stupid ass told me it was mine, i just couldnt get it till saturday. i quess ill have to keep looking man that pisses me off.
Personally, I'd do whatever was the simplest approach depending on how much time and money you have. It's not a professional opinion but I like my auto and I don't miss shifting constantly. If you are going to swap it and have all the facilities and desire go for it.
ok so i guess im getting it after all. Im going to pick it up tomorrow (YAY!!!). i found a transmission for $700 which seems pretty good to me. now ill just have to wait till i get that thing on the road, oh man i cant wait .
Well i went and picked her up today. Man that car still pulls for having a bad tranny. It goes TICK TICK TICK TICK TICK!! when youre driving. Ill hopefully get some pics tomorrow(can anyone host them for me?) or so. Now i just have to get that tranny in it.
Finally ordered the tranny this morning. It was only $650 including shipping. The guy said its still in the car and theyve been driving it around so i know its a good one.
ya i got pics on my moms camera i just need to upload them. other than a little crunch on the drivers rear fender and a crunch on the hood the bodies in awesome condition. It also needs a radio but i already have one to put in it.
Ok I made an account on there and now how do i put the pictures on there? Im pretty stupid when it comes to computers so i really have no clue what im doing. Thanks for the help.
in the top right hand corner of the screen after you log in and enter your file will be a scroll menu thing. click on it and select add new photos, then you select the photos from your computer and click upload, then they should appear in your album after the upload is finished.

Got the tranny out of the legacy today. My suspicions were correct, the tranny is fine. On the other hand the front diff has three sheared off gears. Now i just wait till the new one comes.
