I just picked up on this the other day, when I leave the selector in 3, and as soon as the TC locks up, its like an entirely different car. It just flat out hauls ass with part throttle and 17psi, so the next logical question is, how can I rig up a manual TC lockup switch? I was lookin at the TCU pinout, and there is a wire for it, but it's 0.5v or less unlocked, so just cutting it and wiring up a switch wouldn't do it...

Lock-up is controlled by the ECU, as you know.
It get's a duty signal to the lock-up solenoid. If what you said about lockup is correct, then the only way to do it would be to tap into a +5 volt source from the ECU and feed that to the lock-up solenoid. This would probably get the job done, but may cause some undesired affects/problems in the long run.

You should try driving around with it constantly locked.
I was able to confuse the TCU in my 91 LSI once. The TC locked and wouldnt let loose.
At first I didnt know what was going on. Every shift was very firm and somewhat hollow. Accelleration was significantly better. I could feel something wasnt right but it wasnt until I was stopping that I realized the problem.
With a direct connection to the engine the downshifts upsetted the car and the final 2-1 shift at low speeds caused the engine to almost die.
It was so strange, I tried sitting in neutral for a while, I tried changing to different gears. Nothing helped. Finally I shut the car off and waited 10 seconds. Started it up and everything was just fine!
Just before this happened I was messing around with left foot braking under heavy throttle and manually shifting gears. Also coming to a stop while the engine is at high RPM and measuring stall speeds and such.
There is a PERFECT thread on this subject over on NASIOC. They are discussing a hardware box to be built that would take care of shifting and such. Ill find a link
