Cleaning seats...

Post by BAC5.2 »

I have a Version 4 JDM STi drivers seat (JDM pass. seat), that I am gonna toss in the car this morning.

But it's dirty.

What's the best way to clean a seat? I'm more concerned with the cloth part, than the suede part, since the cloth part is the dirty part.

Ideas?

i use some super clean mixed with water. you get a bucket of water, a scrubby, and the diluted super clean. spray the super clean on the stain, dip the scrubby in the water and scrub the stain out (dip the scrubby a few times), when its clean to your satisfaction, vacuum the water out and let it dry for a little while. thats what i do and it seems to work really well.

You could also try some of that OXY carpet cleaner. 3M makes a Scothgard cleaner. Good luck.

The last time I cleaned the L seats, I used a heat-action carpet cleaner, with so-so results. I got better stain-fighting action with aerosol Simple Green ( makes it foamy  ) and a scrub brush.

Elbow grease is your friend. . .

Try the prestone interior cleaner(available at schucks, red can) It's all the rage on the detail board that I frequent.

It's escaine, the synthetic version of suede. Better than it in virtually every way.

since it's not real leather, you should be able to use an interior cleaner. I'd say superclean would be fine for regular seats, but since escaine is a different material than just plain fabric, I'm going to say try the Prestone Interior Cleaner

You don't want to use steam. The high temps will make rubber hoses brittle. It's fine to use a pressure washer with a burner in it to heat up the water, but you don't want to use steam.

Rubber hoses? I thought we were talking about cleaning seats?

Most rental steam cleaners don't actually get hot enough to steam anyway. It's pretty much just hot forced water that you vacuum out. But I think it would do a deeper clean than just some cleaner and a rug and brush.

AND where did you get the seats? I am jealous!
