Engine died

I currently have a 98 Legacy GT with a 2.5 motor that recently blew up. A friend of mine has a used car garage and he has a 96 Legacy with a 2.2 motor in it. I was wondering if that engine will fit and what i would have to do to get it to work in my car. Can anyone help me?

It'll physically fit, however there may be some electrical differences. Anything is possible, it just requires time and money to figure things out.

I was thinking that if i swap all sensors off the 2.5 motor and put them on the 2.2, that is if it is possible. I looked at a couple of sensors and they will work but im not sure if all of them will. Then i will swap alt., A/C compressor, and so on. Im gonna check more into later on.
