Head work

Post by bmxpunk »

Hey guys. I found another wrecked legacy turbo that I want to get ( the whole thing) but for now, I am going to get the throttle body and the heads (and your pressure sensor Josh). I am gonna have the heads done and put them onto my car. Any reccomedations on what to do or what companies to work with.

The plan sofar is:
Delta stage 1 regrind on the cams
Port and polish heads 5
5 angle vale job
Thinking about bigger vavles (reccommendations?)
thoughts on titanium or stiffer springs?

i bye all the factory parts new, they last the longest and can be put under alot of stress.

i have a couple heads and motors around i want to take the heads in an try and get all of what you siad done, i only have ported and polished done and it made a huge improvment.

i wish there was a kit i could bye or i need to look into who i can send them to so i get the most out of them, with good quality stuff.

i would do it bmxpunk if you got the money go for it, you can swap wrx heads but i think it would be more involved like turbo lines an intakemanifold stuff. why invent the wheel just make it better and stronger.

So my head gasket blew tonight!!!!!! yeah

how worth it will it be to have my heads ported and polished while I have them off the car. I dont plan on going crazy right now. I will just get a couple hundred dollars worth of work to free up a few ponies. Will it be worth it?

I wanna cry.

thats one of the nice things about living where I do. We are detatched from the rest of the world or something but the labor rates to the shop I have talked to are like $20 an hour. not saying that they will only take an hour. And I dont want full on race heads just something a little better flowing. When I want race heads I will slap in some JDM sti heads-huge ports and aggresive cams.

just make sure whoever does the head work has a flow bench and can show you before and after numbers. A mile cleaning of the ports can be done by anyone with experiance doing it. Getting the most out of a head requires lots of trial and error, and lots of heads that are junk. REmoving a little bit to much material can make a head go from flowing awesome to being worse than stock. Unless you want the experiance of being the guinnie pig, don't get ambitious unless they guys has raced Suabarus for a dozen years.

Flow is a tricky thing. Ask me how I know :sigh:

I understand. I got an estimate from the gentleman who p/p'd my turbo and it was a really nice job. He was going to have a 3 angle valve job then do some blending and smoothing stuff for about 500-600. he is doing a set for a 2.5 na buildright now.

That quote was, I believe... for a standard port and polish and whatnot. Just standard headwork. Did you guys know that BMWs come from the factory with Ported and Polished heads?
