Any Good BodyShops in the PNW?

Post by A_DuB »

I tried to parallel park my car in a cow pasture this last Sunday. Was doing about seventy on a straight stretch came to a chicane in the road made the right hand part of the turn but over corrected and spun out on the left hand part and did a nice park job half way in a ditch and cow pasture. Need less to say the car has a little bit of body damage along the lower right side. So my question is does any one know of a good bodyshops in the PNW?

GAWDAMMIT! You have a Rio Red 91 SS. BE CAREFUL WITH IT, IT'S RARE!
haha, I don't care, it's your ride and your life, foolio. I would check Bel-Red auto in the North End, they're reknown for doing excellent work.

If you're looking for someone a little less expensive, but also very good, look into GW Auto Rebuild in Seattle(edmonds). Sorry I can't help you farther east of here, but I know the shops in this area

I do a bit of body and paint, but I'm really backed up with other work at home right now, other wise I'm sure I could offer you a pretty good deal. Whats your timeline? I'm in Ellensburg.

Gary

BTW, I have a '91 SS 5MT in Rio Red too... is this color really rare?
No matter how broke I am... I always seem to find two cents.

Timeline LOL. I'll try and get some pix first before I get anything too big into the works, at least that way I don't waste your time and my money. Once I get it drivable I might take it to one of those shops, If the pix I will provide don't make you all think its toasty first.

If you're interested, my body/paint guy who works over in Port Angeles has worked for 4 body shops and has also worked for a mobile body facility. He does blends for like $200 per panel/bumper/whatever on the outside (of his business) and is even set up to do mobile repair from his Astro Van.
Send me some pics of the damage and I could get you a quote, I could also send you some before/after pics of work he has done for me along with pics of full paint jobs he has done as well. Plus, you're not too far from me and he comes up to Oak Harbor to get drunk and sing Karaoke with me quite often, we could all meet up.

BTW, this is my first post on this forum, I hope it treats me as good as subaruforester.com has. Looks good so far!

Update

Post by A_DuB »

Took my car to a local body shop yesterday. It didn't go great but it wasn't that bad either. The guy at the body shop said that it was a really hard hit so it will need multiple pulls to get the frame straight. The rocker panel is all bent to hell and there is no saving it, has to be cut out and a new one welded in. Same for the pillar that the rear door hangs off of.

Not sure as to what to do about the doors though. The guy at the body shop said that my doors (front right, and right rear) have about six hours worth of damage each. He can get used doors form a salvage yard for 250 each but both would need an hour and a half to fix. I can get door shells for both doors from 1stsubaruparts.com with no windows locks or anything, for about 300 each and I think they would be "new" meaning no work at the body shop. I might be able to find used doors for cheaper and less damage than the guy at the body shop from one of those online salvage yards. Or one of my friends has a sister that just blew her motor in her N/A 91 legacy and I might be able to get all the part I need from her car and save tons of money.

So for those of you who don't like word problems let me break it down real quick.
My doors as is=700$ to fix
Body Shop guy=650$ 5 for the doors and 1.5 to fix up
1stsubaruparts=600 and my time (I have lots)
Online Salvage=??????????? might be cheaper
Friends Sister= doubtful but would be the cheapest
I’ll have to get back to you all on those last two.
