Just a small problem

Post by rally370 »

As most of you guys know I use the rally car for work.So the other day the engine was running fine sitting in LA traffic. Then it started to run limpy? check engine light came on and it ran like crap. This went on for about 5 mins and then cleared. It ran fine for the rest of the day.Now I notice it idles at 1500 or a little higher infact the idle is never the same. After a blast down the freeway it sometimes idles at near 2000.

Any clues? I've got Prescott in 2 weeks.

Cheers

Coolant Temp Sensor or MAF? Checked either of those lately? Did you check the code the ECU is throwing?

the Coolant temp sensor is less than 25 dollars from the dealer and is easy to swap.

i would start there.

Sounds like what happened when my coolant temp sensor went bad. But the fans weren't kicking on either and the engine was having heat problems.

Temp sensor ordered! so we will see.Now I think about it the temp gauge never goes above normal.Even on a rally.
Anyway I'll fit it and let you know.

Thanks for your input.

That damn mouse under the hood screwed something up... :(

Could also be:
1. Idle Air control valve
2. TPS Wire shorted/ chewed
3.some other wire the mouse ate (MAF)..

It could be the temp sensor, but check the other stuff too.

Hi Barrett

Thanks for the info.I did take a look at the Idle control valve last night.Remember when I got the car the check engine light was on? and there were small pieces of metal in the valve.Well same thing again. So this might be the problem?? anyway do a road test and see this weekend.

Cheers
