trying to put this damn engine in, the input shaft will not fit in the pilot bearing on the flywheel because directly behind it (on the new engine) is some sort of plug blocking the way.
on the old engine, no such plug exists. I've tried drilling, using an ease-out, and banging on it with a hammer, but nothing seems to work.
does anyone have any clue what the hell this plug is here for, and if I can drop the engine in with it there? I swear it looks like I need that open hole in the cranshaft for the input shaft's nose.
help.

The input shaft nubby that fits in the pilot bearing shouldn't extend too much past the pilot bearing. Is this plug in the pilot bearing or directly behind it? Does the flywheel have a straight through hole for the pilot bearing?

I did measurements, there's a slight wear-area where the pilot bearing on my flywheel has left slight marks on the input shaft, and the input shaft extends beyond the pilot bearing enough to make contact with that metal core
I measured so, anyway, and that clearly prevents a proper mate-up
hmmm....not sure what the plug is....but I'd say remove it.

Maybe the snout of the mainshaft from the tranny of the previous car broke off in there? You should be using a new pilot bearing anyways...
