Time for another car

Post by A_DuB »

So ever since I put my car out of commission my parents have seriously been considering buying another car. We are still in the process of getting my car repaired and will eventually need a third car for the family. I've been looking it to this for my own interests and my parents :P . At first they told me to look at fuel efficient cars from the early to mid 90's. The three best I could find were VW turbo diesel jetta, Volvo 4d wagon, and Geo metro. I was strictly thinking of fuel efficiency but when I told my dad that 1.3 Geo metro got 50+ mpg he laughed. He changed his mind and said it didn't have to be the best mpg but better than what we have while the subie is out of commission, 87 carbed ford bronco that has gas issues  so that put everything I could think of back on the table, lately I've been side tracked working on my car, and haven't put much though into any other cars. Then all of a sudden my older brothers girlfriends step dad came by with an 96 Hyundai accent that he's looking to get rid of for cheap. I looked into this car and so far it don't look bad pretty sure this guy wont screw us by selling us a Lemmon we've known him for a while. I don't want to pass up a good deal but I still wish it were a Subaru instead.

I'd avoid Hyundai and Kia (less it were brand new) like a disease.

Get like a 95-98 Impreza or Legacy....then you'll have Subaru power and non-turboage for the gas mileage.

Hmmm a 98 Impreza does sound so much more appealing to me. :-D I would probably have never considered the accent unless my older brothers girlfriends step dad hadn't came by with his. And if we pass this up for 95-98 subie theres no telling how long we could be insearch of a good used cheap subie. Just dont know what to do. I didn't know Hyundai was the equivalent of a Killed in action Kia. I don't want to drive something like that. :x

Diesel Jetta.

My shop is going to start making alternative diesel for the bosses and business managers VW's. $.47 a gallon, and it gets roughly the same fuel efficiency and power.

Plus, they can idle up a tow truck.

I wish subaru would convert one of their engines to a diesel setup, then volkwagen hippies would have no reasos not to buy subarus, and FHI could take over the world

Yeah...the TDi is an awesome motor...lots of power...

A really cost effective diesel option would be a Mercedes 240D/300D...I used to drive a manual tranny 240D, and I loved the car to death, and it got 30mpg...lots of room, comfy as hell, slower than the 2nd coming of christ, but they are a neat car...and about as easy as an aircooled VW to work on!

I picked mine up for $1550...so they aren't really expensive...

look for 78-85

btw...82-85 300D's are Turbodiesel, and get 35mpg, and have power!?!?

I want a Merc 240D so bad. 4-spd. I don't care how slow it is. I also want one with at least 300k on it so I know it's broken in :D

Yeah, my 240 was a 4 speed car!

It was a neat machine...I miss it alot, especially for long trips!

I might have to find me a nice Free 300D to supplement my Soobaroo.

I want a big olf Ford F350 Turbo diesel with about 250K so I know it's broken in.

So would anyone agree that 100K on the Roo's is "broken in?"

Id like to see what someone could get out of a TDI. 600 lb-ft and 30mpg would be sweet. :smt036
