Sunroof control backlighting

Post by Splinter »

Just letting you guys know what I'm working on.

Dropping in 6 bright LEDs inside the sunroof control box to give the buttons a slight glowing outline so I can find them a little easier at night.

Pics soon.

It'll get cleaned up a bit before it gets installed.

interesting...
what if you were to make a section of the button thinner on the back... say in the form of arrows or squares to symbolize each one... that would take this project up to a whole other crazy level...

bad ass though goog idea

Unfortunally the buttons are encased in a pretty sturdy housing, I dont think Id be able to light them from the inside.

Changed it to green backlighting to match the rest of the car

Need to rewire it tho, it's not turning off when the car is off.

Where did you wire it from in the first place? I'd think that you'd wire it in with the dashboard illumination so that they go on when your lights are on/off and you could dim them with the dimmer....

Originally I wired it up to the 12V+ in the sunroof controls, but that's always on.

Light all the window switches in your car. That should be an easy job for you. Or, if your car is a 4EAT, light up the selector area around the tranny (you know where it says PRND321)

Lit PRND321 would be cool, be redundant since it's in the dash. Supplimenting the crappy footwell and other cabin lighting would be cool. Maybe a maplight that is on a flexible stalk or otherwise aimable?

Ooo, the window switches would be a good one.

I think I'll wait until I swap them all out for master switches tho

I might upgrade the trunk lighting, that'd be mega useful.

The maplight idea is interesting, but it'd have to be something completely retractable.
