Turbo timer turning on when I pull the e-brake handle

Post by TurboSubie »

Is there some type of ground in the the e-brake handle ? I want my time to only count down when I pull the e-brake. Those of you with MT's probably are more familiar with this wire...help a 4eat guy out..thanks!

That blue-with-red-stripe wire is grounded when the handbrake is on.

Every turbo timer I've seen has a wire that you're supposed to connect to that wire. Don't try using that wire as the actual ground for the turbo timer; follow the instructions that came with the unit.

I spliced into this little wire, I used the gray wire from the timer(HKS type 1) and left the ground wire on the usual ground. it still won't count down when I have the e-brake pulled....should have I used the black wire from the timer?

What do the instructions that came with your timer say?

I'm not too familiar with turbo timers but there might be a negative trigger and a posotive trigger on your unit. The grey wire might be a posotive trigger if its not working. there may be another "unused" wire that might be the negative one. Try to search on google for the directions if you bought it second hand and post the wiring diagram on here so we can help you more.

"Next, locate the parking brake switch wire. On my car, this wire ran up from
the parking brake, behind the shifter area, and disappearing into the cable
guide running along the left side of the divider. This wire should have about
+12 volts with the parking brake off and 0 volts with it on. HKS has supplied the gray wire for this purpose"

So it looks like the gray wire is correct...I'm pretty sure I am using the correct parking brake ground...it is on the passenger side of the parking brake with a blue/red stripe wire with a little black clip thats connected to a metal braket of the parking brake...any ideas?

I think the problem you might be having is that when you pull the ebrake your not technically putting that grey wire to ground but your allowing the 12 volts thats there to go to ground or "return" to the battery. kind of like -12 volts if that makes any sense. I'll check my e brake tomorrow and let you know. you might need to cut the wire and stick a diode in there with the grey wire on one side. I'll get back to you tomorrow. P.S. sounds like your not using a multimeter to do this. you cant do any electrical wiring without a multimeter its like driving blind.

I'm still stumped...tried everything...has anyone else done this? Maybe some more insight?

What were you quoting from?

And any chance you could be swayed to actually type in exactly what the instructions say?
