Swimming pool in my trunk

When I pulled off the side trim in the trunk to remove the power antenna, I noticed somethinga little odd

That whole depression in the trunk has about 2 inches of water at the bottom

No wonder all the tools and stuff I left in there started to rust


I can remove it easily enough, but where the hell did it come from??

drain it, dry it and then bust out the garden hose. I had to do this on my altima. The body shop F'ed up a weatrher seal in my trunk.

The weird thing is, the carpet wasnt getting wet when I had it in there

It must have been coming in from the power antenna or something

My sh|tbox old grand am leaked the spare tire well full of water one time. I pulled all the stuff out of the well, drilled a couple drain holes in it and let it drain while I looked for a culprit. Turns out the weather strip that sealed the trunk lid had split at the seam right under the centre of the windshield so I caulked the hole shut and plugged the drain holes and that was that.

Yes ladies and gentlemen, I was too cheap to buy a new trunk seal

Happened on all 3 of my Subarus. Might be the rubber drain hose from the sunroof.


No matter. Pulled the drain plugs and left 'em out and no probs.

In the bottom of the trunk under the spare tire, and in the bottom of the fender, there are a handful of rubber plugs. Crawl underneath the back of your car, preferably when it's cleaner than my car so you can actually see them, and just keep pulling plugs until it spews nasty water all over your hand.

It's probably best to put the plugs back in place whenever possible. But, if the flooding problem is persistent, then just leave out 1 or 2 plugs in key locations so it always drains itself.

Might also be sneaking in through the tail light housings, runoff from the trunk gutters pours right onto the light housings, run a bead of RTV around the seam.
My spare was floating after last summers rainstorms, no visible leaks from trunk seal or drain tubes. Re-sealed the lights, helped a lot.

I'm voting sun roof tubes. Happened in my crx all the fucking time.
