So I am dying to get some EM on my '93 SS sedan. I am following the PP discussions between 777, Doug, punk and all, but they all seem to have a "funky" setup they are working with.
My question is: is anybody using the PP with success on their stock ECU/motor (w/ bolt-on's) turbo leg? If so, are you having scaling issues, new hesitations, etc...?
I would be setting the unit up and having it tuned on a local dyno.
These may be common questions on the PP forum, is that on Rallitech's (tek sp?) web site? (question 2 I guess)
Thanks,
Chad

I believe in the PP. But with reservations.....
It DOES work. But.....
And the "but" is all those little pesky problems we are having.
However, I was talking to Sean today at Rallitek about some of the problems out there.
1st and foremost, the biggest problems all the customers have been having is bad installation. Sean has now started modifying all wiring looms he ships so customers dont use the wrong wires, too long of wires, and is working on correct installation instructions for each application. The last is hard, because there are so many variations out there. But he is trying.
Then there is the problem of the end user attempting to setup and "tune" the perfect power. First off getting the perfect power to work "should" be easy. It was for me. (once I removed some weird mods, my fault).
However, then there are cases like BMXPUNK. Distance is a problem, and because BMX has a unique setup, it causes even more problems. Sean and I viewed a logged run of BMXs today and we both agree that his maps are WHCACKED. But they work. But at the same time, they really shouldnt. Sean is making a point of finally getting back to BMX and hopefully stuff will get squared away.
Then comes some problems of hesitation and bucking which both BMX and I have. This is annoying, but should be removable, I just have to spend some time taking care of general car matenience. Anytime who mess with wiring, AND THEN install EM, you are asking for trouble.
So anyway, I think its a good deal, and by the time you get it and install it, we should have most problems ironed out.
By the way, the wiring instructions I have posted here, should work for your set up.

It depends on what you want out of it.
I could see the benefit for lesser power applications, but from what I've read it really lacks the ability to do some of the more interesting setups. Such as automatically compensating for fatter injectors, or being able to independently control 2 sets of injectors.
When it can do that, I might be more inclined to get it. But you have to realize, my goals and intentions are VERY different than what yours may be.

My setup is for all intents & purposes a stock turbo legacy. I'm using all the stock turbo legacy sensors and ECU, and have wired in the perfect power.
The perfect power is pretty decent engine management for the cost. After digging into it, and playing with it, I will say it's probably not the best EM out there, nor will it do everything you want to do. It will allow you to scale injection for larger injectors as well as ignition. You can get creative, but with that setup I just mentioned above, you're pretty much using most of the inputs/outputs. There is a driver for an external injector.
I am working on a plan to flow test both MAF sensors, and datalog the output so I have a graph/data of airflow vs. MAF voltage. With that data, I should be able to get the differences between the two, input the voltage changes in the perfect power map and have a pretty decent map without doing any tuning. There will probably need to be some slightly tweaking, but it's a starting point. Then when I add larger injectors, I will have to play with the map again.
I'm looking into this because already, at stock boost levels I'm hitting like 4.9 V on the MAF sensor.
One other thing is I've been talking with a guy on the PP forums about using the MAF sensor input as the deflection instead of the TPS signal. I'm still researching that though.
So to sum all this up....the perfect power 6 is a pretty good EM for the price. I've heard the PP 7 has a lot more features, and if money wasn't an issue, I definitely would have looked into it.

Thanks fella's, I appreciate the input.
My goals for the PP are to pull some more power out of my setup, make it more consistant, and be able to tune for mods as time continues (ported exhaust manifold, maybe a vf12, etc..). It seems like some days my SS pulls VERY hard, and some days it feels like it is yanking timing like mad until ~5400rpm (were I think the ECU stops controling timing at WOT - read something about that with the wrx ecu and it seems true here as well).
I am not necessarily looking to add huge injectors, or swap the MAF. If I were going that $$ route I think I would be chasing the Autronic EM system. Not that I don't want a 350hp super sleeper, but I just don't have time to R&D my own "kit" to make it work right everyday for my commute. I'd be happy with a solid 190-200hp and 200-220ftlbs at the wheels after a dyno tune.
Anyway, I think I will hang back and let the expidition leaders light the way for the next month or 2 and see what is found.
