Hi, My name is Damien and I am a new Subaru addict

Post by MrSarcastic13 »

Just wanted to introduce myself. I just purchased a 94 Legacy Turbo Wagon, blue, a bit under 110k miles on it. Been wanting a subaru for a while since I live in CT and wish to continue living. I've been on this site for a day and now know what things I need to fix, not that I can do it myself, I am a car tard. Looks like I need a new head gasket (white exhaust smoke) a new O2 sensor (gas mileage even a Hummer owner would gasp at) and a wagon without a sunroof (WETASS!).

I am gonna try the drains first since the leaks seem localized on the corners on the drivers side. If that doesn't work I might force the shut down of the board by asking for volunteers. ;) Just wanted to say thanks for the board and to the members.

We here at LCO don't reccomend that "Car-tards" work on thier own vehicles or for that matter own turbo wagons so we are going to have to insist that you either surrender or sell you vehicle cheap to me so that all the repairs may be done properly and within a timely manner.

We thank you for joining and look forward to posting pictures of your former car....in other words:

WELCOME AND GOOD LUCK NOOB!!

You are going to need it. That O2 sensor is easy and so is the sunroof drains...head gaskets are another story. It can be done with the engine in the vehicle but from what I hear it is a PITA. But on the bright side you could have the engine "refreshed" while out of the vehicle and it could go for 300K+ miles.

Isit possible that coolant is somehow leaking into the turbo creating white smoke? I had a GL-10 turbo wagon that was blowing crazy white smoke. I too thought the HG was cooked..turned out to be a coolant leak at the turbo.

I joshed him around a bit but then offered up some good advice.

We welcome and cherish all our members, be it new or old here you are family. We will try and help you any way you can so please feel free to ask us any qustions you my have. It helps when members do a search (using search button above) to see if the topic has been covered in the past but please know that there are no stupid questions.

Maybe you will push that button on top of your steering column while detailing and can't get your parking and tail lights to go off.....maybe you are concerned about having your car towed on two wheels...maybe you want to know about performance and modifications. We are here to help.

Most of all we encourage you to do it yourself and save money. When I was hesitant on changing my timing belt and fixing my oil pump on my very first Subaru, everyone on here gave me tips and tricks to make it easy and it was. I saved a ton of cash and now I am confident I can fix most systems of my Roos. Yep I said Roos.
I own a couple now....and some Subaru toys too.

Like I said before...Welcome abaord.

Welcome to the LCO.

Hehe, subawhatsubawho... you're always making random ass comments and while often funny, they are often a little worthless ;), so I think Josh merely meant to warn Damien of this :), with no offense intended.

Damien, I'm glad you're cool with sarcasim because you'll definately find some floating around this place but we are infact a pretty even keel bunch of guys, and a few special gals too, and are willing to help answer questions though just one more warning - if a question seems pretty common, search first because we've probably covered it and then feel free to ask noob questions :).

before I got my legacy, I knew exactly jack and squat about working on cars. now there is hardly any stock drivetrain parts, and Ive never paid a shop to work on it. I'm way too stubborn to pay someone else for a learning experience I could be having. If I can do it you can too.
start with a few small repairs and gradually work up to the big stuff.
good luck, and welcome noob :P

Thanks very much for the ball busting and the suggestions. Already lining up a few people for the sunroof fix. I know a guy who is a mechanic at a local dealership so I might just buy the parts I need and see what it will take to get him to put them in for me. As for what is causing the white smoke I really have no clue, just that everything I read indicated it was a cracked head gasket. And as it seems to be with everyone else here, it's all about the money, particularly now that the Christmas bills are coming in. Thanks all for the replies again.

One last thing, I noticed that my radio gets way worse reception than my previous vehicle. I want to replace the head unit eventually would that and a new antenna do it for me? And I was gonna ask something else but work was dead today and it killed my mind.

Now I remember!!! Is there a guide for all the acronyms everyone here uses so I don't get New Deal flashbacks? Thanks!

Any upgrade to your audio system is a plus. You might want to consider keeping your antenna though. Perhaps there is a problem with your radio.

I do not know exactly which acronyms you speak of but I will break your vehicle down for you.

1994 Subaru legacy turbo with automatic transmission.

Legacy wagon = BJ (in the VIN)

Engine = EJ22T (T = turbo)

Automatic tranny = 4EAT

I'm starting to feel like the only person without a turbo under the hood.

Those are a few of them. Thanks for the radio help. This whole sunroof thing is making me nervous. Don't want to foul something up bad. That would just be my luck.

Is the water backing up? Do you feel as if the drains are clogged?

Maybe you could run a lenght of semi-stiff wire thru the tubes to try and free any debris. Maybe use an air compressor to clear the lines.

Just trying to save you some dough. But if you got it...flaunt it.
