Water trapped in the knock sensor?
As anyone following the drama that is my life will know, Ive had a lot of water loose in my engine compartment due to various radiator foibles.
Before I was getting occasional knock codes, but now its always on, and the car has NO pull until about 4K
I dont know if the knock sensor has ever been replaced, but according to the documentation that I got with the car, it got a whole new engine about 60K ago, presumably they wouldnt have used the original sensor, but nothing is for sure.
Im wondering if its possible for some water to have gotten into the sensor, and it just needs to be removed and dried, since I really cant afford to buy a new sensor right now. I dont really want to mess around taking it out if Im just going to have to put it back in the way it is, especially with the intercooler in the way now.
If not, how safe would it be to run without a knock sensor, using some sort of trick to make the ECU think everythings ok, running on 91 Octane?

Don't run without the knock sensor.
Do you know what color the plastic connector is on the knock sensor? Gray or White?

the knock sensor plug clips onto the little bracked directly under the throttle body. same place the crank and cam sensor plugs are anchored

You can see the end of the white plug and the knock sensor in this pic

The white plug is the updated design.

Yea thats the picture I was referring to, for some reason I thought it was Gary's...
anyway. I cant tell exactly what that picture is showing me, I cant find a comparable view inside my car. Plus the intercooler is in the way now.
HOWEVER.
The CEL suddenly went out, randomly, and the car is working fine now.
Which leads me to the conclusion that there must have been water trapped in the sensor or in a connector, and its gone now.

i had a problem wit my knock sensor when it would rain, after the wrx hoodscoop. Now with this huge hole in my hood Everytime it would rain/snow my knock sensor un-willingy went swimming for 30-45 mins or untill the water evaporated/melted from engine heat. I actually fixed this by finding a n/a engine cover, and modding it to fit. Covers the knock sensor like it was its job.
