EJ22T->EJ18 wiring Q's

Post by MPtyza »

OK, I've decided to try and run my EJ18 off of an EJ18 ECU (how 'bout that  ). I grabbed an EJ18 throttle body, ECU, and ECU plugs, (quite literally), and already have the EJ18 TCU and plugs. What I want to know is, what all exactly needs to be done to get the thing to run properly, and throw no codes. I mean, is it even possible at this point? I've been running it with the EJ18, and the AWD 4EAT that was attached since '93, and that tranny doesn't seem to want to play nice with the Legacy TCU, and I'm running it off of a NA 2.2 ECU. I've been getting 17mpg since then. I know it's a heavy car but come on.

I have the ECU pinouts for the Legacy and Impreza, but will simply wiring up the TCU, ECU, and the proper IAC and TPS make everything play nice and not throw any codes?

So, I was just comparing ECU pinouts between the EJ22 and EJ18. I totally forgot that the EJ18 has that EGR bullshit. Since I've got the EJ22T intake manifold, I don't have anything EGR related. So my question is, can I just wire in wires that have similar voltage for the EGR pins on the EJ18 ECU?
The following I cannot find a corresponding wire for on the EJ22 ECU pinout:

EGR solenoid valve
Air suction solenoid valve
FICD solenoid valve
Purge control solenoid valve
Power steering pressure
Recirculation gas temperature sensor

Now, for the first four, the voltage when on is 0 and when off is 10-13 with ignition switch on, but engine off. With the engine idling, it is: when on 0, and when off 13-14. The A/C relay control voltages are the same, so can I take and connect the A/C relay control wire to all four of these?

Also, for the EJ18, there is Radiator fan relay 1 and 2, but the EJ22 only has one, so can I run this one wire to both pins on the EJ18?

If I don't connect any wires to the last two, the power steering pressure and recirculation gas temperature sensor, will the ECU throw a code?

Sorry for all the questions, but I need to wire all this crap in so my car runs right, and I can't have it throwing codes, because I need to pass emissions by the 31st.

Why not swap on the correct manifold? Are you confident this engine would pass emissions without EGR?

I don't think you'll find an easy way to trick the ECU into thinking EGR is still around when it's not.

Well, I don't know where exactly the manifold is anymore (I wasn't able to keep much from the swap, and I am really f'in pissed about that  ). I know I should have just done it right the first damn time, but I needed something driveable pretty much right away at the time. I'm getting kinda sick of the shitty mileage and constant CEL from the idle switch, so I figured I'd try and run it from the correct ECU now.

Finagling the idle switch is likely to be easier than finagling the EGR.

eye ya ya....man you've got things so spun around. I really don't even know where or how to reply....

You were talking about the 4eat TCU....are you running an impreza 4eat? Haven't you been running the legacy ECU up until now?

I'm just thoroughly confused.

Yeah, I'm running the Impreza 4EAT, and it doesn't seem to want to shift normally, there is no power mode, and doesn't use 4th gear. I've been getting shitty fuel mileage, like 17mpg, so I was thinking that the Legacy ECU was making it run rich like Matt Monson said might happen. Sorry for all the confusion about my car.

Whatever I do, is going to be reversible. I'm not cutting the ECU wires in the car. I hacked apart a Legacy ECU (not the old Turbo one) for it's connectors, and I'm going to solder the wiring for the EJ18 ECU to it so it's like an adaptor to just plug in. Same for the TCU. I had that idea about a week ago, wish I would have thought of it a long damn time ago :)
