Hmmm....

At 7:36pm I got an e-mail from Beaver Bob, infamous owner of Beaver Springs Dragway (host of the Subaru Shootout and Matt's Famous Feed-And-Speed). Saying his contact info wasn't up to date and blah blah blah.

I thought not much of it. I THINK I gave him my gmail addy when I was last up there.

Then, exactly 3 hours later at 10:36pm, I got an e-mail from Matt (Legacy92ej22t). This one, I'm sure he didn't send. Why? Because it wasn't from his g-mail account, and Matt never e-mails me from his other e-mail account.

Both had different subject lines, but had the same exact content.

Anyways, everyone beware. Might be something going around.

There was a worm launced either yesterday or today. It is very destructive! Please believe me when I say this! DO NOT OPEN ANY E-MAILS THAT SOUND FUNNY!! ESPECIALLY TODAY!!

We have recently learned about a new virus, called Blackworm that is scheduled to be released early tomorrow. This virus is also known by the following names: Nyxem, Kapser.A, and Kama Sutra. Following is some additional information about this particular virus:

Virus Description:

Blackworm is a mass-mailing virus that attempts to spread via email. Infected computers will send out copies of the virus as attachments via email-addresses that are collected from the computer. This virus has its own email engine and it can send out emails even if you are not running an email program.

Who is affected?

Users of the Windows operating system including, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows 2000 and Windows XP.

How is it transmitted?

The virus is transmitted through email attachments, or shared network files.

How can this virus affect the computer?

*

It creates various files in Windows and Windows System directories.
*

Attempts to end processes pertaining to anti-virus or security products such as Norton, McAfee, Trend Micro and others.
*

Creates registry entries.
*

Attempts to copy itself to specific network shares.
*

Gathers email addresses from various file types within your computer.
*

If the computer is connected to other network computers the virus will try to copy itself on the remote computer.
*

If the virus is executed on the 3rd day of every month, it will destroy all files with the following extensions by overwriting the file: *.doc , *.xls , *.mdb , *.mde , *.ppt , *.pps , *.zip , *.rar , *.pdf , *.psd, *.dmp. IMPORTANT NOTE: the potential for this virus to destroy your user data as outlined above is what makes it of particular concern.

I got the same thing from B-Bob yesterday and I updated my info to him through Plaxo, it then updated my address book and sent out responses to all my contacts for them to update to me. I guess I had your e-mail in my ISP e-mails contact book too. But yes, I usually only e-mail you on my G-mail account but no, it wasn't some crazy spam thing or virus.

Update your info to me or don't, doesn't really matter. I did it on a wim and am not really worried about it. :)

If you know anyone that has an anti-virsu disk such as norton just borrow it and slap it in the CD-ROM and boot up.

1. Turn PC on

2. Insert disk

3. Turn computer off

4. Turn computer on

This should help.

I'm not real familiar with it. I just saw it for the first time when B-bob sent it to me. Why don't you like it?

Glad it wasn't a virus. False alarm I suppose. I'd rather have had you guys know than get screwed.

Matt - I won't reply. You have all my contact info!

If I had bothered to write down the contacts I had for Phil, I'd still have 'em, too.
