Before they die, videotape your parents.

Post by douglas vincent »

My dad died on Saturday. He was only 68. :( Yeah, I am fucked up a tad about it.

I went to Mexico about 3 weeks ago to see him with my two brothers. Since it was a vacation I took my video camera.

But since it was a vacation, I just got a little video, and out of it I only got about maybe 30-60 seconds total of my actual father on it.

So, if you have a chance, just videotape yourself and you parents somehow. You won't regret it. I regret not picking the fucking thing up enough.

Yeah, since he lived in Mexico, I didnt see him much.

Doug, I truly feel for you about this. It's tough to lose a family member, espically one you love so much.

As Jermey said, only time will help. But if you need anything. A shoulder to cry on, someone to talk to, someone to vent to, just send me an e-mail and I'll do whatever I can to help you out.

It's tough, and it's not something that should be gone through alone.

Don't regret not having picked up the camera more. Be happy that you picked it up at all!

Best wishes,

Phil

My dad's 73 and hasn't been in the best of health for the last several years since beating cancer twice. Your words are inspiring, Douglas. Going to bust out the video camera a lot more often, now.

Sorry to hear about your loss Doug. I'm sure you dad knew how much you loved him.

When you become a father (If you aren't already) do all the things with your kids that you wanted to do with your dad. I never had a dad but I have 2 sons and it is a learning experience.

You will see him again someday.

Sorry to hear about your loss, I'm sure the time you spent with him face to face was more fulfilling for him than any time you would have been hiding behind a camera, I'm sure he would have preferred it that way.

Take care

Doug--a sad loss.

Pictures are important. This week I'm having some pictures of my great grandfather restored with copies for many in the family.

The one taken with his soccer team in 1904 shows at least one of his interests.

Nice to have.

I am sorry for your loss. My best wishes go out to you and your family. Like others have said, you had a chance to see him recently before he died and you do have the video, so that is something to be thankful for. No matter what religion you are, you can take sollace in the fact that God does care about all of his creation, and there will be a time when none of us have to feel the sting of death anymore. If you ever want to talk let me know. Again, my condolences.

Thanks for all the condolences. I am doing fine. I am just going through all the stages....denial, anger, sadness, frustration, guilt, you name it. But all in all I am ok.

Thanks again.

Doug.
