The deck on the 2003-2004 legacy wagon is more-or-less integrated into the dashboard.....and I want to replace the in-dash unit with my old mp3 deck (JVC)
I was advised not to do this......
Can it be done?
Would I still be able to use the audio controls on the steering wheel?
get me a pic of the dash and I'll let you know, as far as controling it through the steering wheel they do make some modules that can allow the use of those controls but they require that the radio you are putting in comes with a remote and you install a IR sender in view of the radio. when you press one of the buttons on the steering wheel this unit takes that signal and routes it to an IR sender and it then in turn controls your radio via the remote control sensor. I dont know off hand how much these things cost but it is definately more expensive than any JVC head unit.

Since yours is RHD, I'm assuming you're in AUS or NZ (then again, I am just ASSuming).
There has got to be a way, but I'm not sure. Lemme check with one of my friends (who installs car electronics and owns an '05 Legacy GT), and I'll get back to you.
Also, you could check out LegacyGT.com. It's a site about the new generation of Legacies, so I'm sure you will find a bit more information on there.

That being said, everything I post is accurate to the best of my knowledge.
What I was told is that these 'new type' of cars are sort of tricky to work with..(replacing the deck that is).....it might interfere with the car's computer or some sh*t so.....
sounds unrealistic to me.............."if there is a will, there is a way"
