Lowering passenger seat

Post by jnorion »

I have the LSi model, with leather and a height adjustable driver's seat. I have it down at its lowest setting (I'm just BARELY under six feet) and it's very comfortable. However, the passenger seat is not adjustable and sits too high. Most of the time I have a baby seat behind it, and after moving the seat forward enough for it, it's just unfomfortable. It feels unstable even under normal driving conditions.

Is there a way to lower it to the same ride height as the driver's seat? I don't really care about adjustability, I want to put it down and leave it down. Any ideas?

maybe cutting the brackets and drilling new holes, but I think that they'd have to be bent as well.

Yuck. That's a pain in the ass, I had to do some of that on my last car.

Get a height-adjustable driver's seat from an RHD country. :)

Thought about that too... it's a LITTLE out of my price range right now. And the chances of matching the leather perfectly are not great.

OK, so here's another thought. Is there any reason why I couldn't take the lower frame from the driver's seat of another car and mount my cushion on it? I would think the cushion would just come off if you remove the leather cover, and then you could unbolt various parts of the frame.

I just went and stared at it for a while... I'm thinking that might work, even though the controls are wrong. What I would have to do is lower it down to the proper setting and then take the adjustment handle off (or at least its housing), and then install it. Oh well, I'm going to have to spend some time at the junkyard for that one.

The mounting bracket is also mirror that of the drivers side. Hence the problem.

Oh, I wasn't meaning using the rails from the other seat... just the frame that sits below the cushion. I don't know exactly what it looks like since I haven't had the seats out of this car yet, so I have no idea if that's a possibility or not. In my last car there was a section that could swap over.

the cushion is part of the frame. The rails come off, and that's about it.

Dammit. I was hoping for an easier fix. I guess I need to tear into the thing myself now. I need a garage.
