they're a very hard fit into an impreza, but I hear it can be done easier in a legacy, does take some work though, also need the wiring harness and the ECU from the outback to do the job.

Would be easier to pull(and put in) an EG33 from a cooked SVX if you want a H6 in a Legacy.

But, as I recall, you'd have to majorly mod the engine bay to fit a EZ30 (EG33's take the same motor mounts as EJ22's). I'm gonna have to say that Manarius needs to find some proof of that. The EZ30 comes in the Outbacks, and it's been put into more than a few Imprezas and Legacys now, with no mention of a "special" transmission or engine mounts needed.

I agree with Dave...
The whole idea behind the EZ30 was that it would fit in an engine compartment designed for an EJ series 4 cylinder...
And I don't think they would have changed the transmission bolt pattern that has been used since 1989 for that one motor...

I think we went over this before. The EG33 is just a EJ22 with two cylinders tacked on..it's the same stroke and bore. The EZ30 is a different engine all together. I'm not saying that I'm completely right. Feel free to correct me. I was always under the impression that the new engines (like post 99ish...non ej series) weren't exactly meant for our cars..they're just different.

I was under the impression that from 90' to present in Legacies, Imprezas, and Foresters, all engines and transmissions were interchangable, for the most part. As in, I could put and entire STi engine, driveline, and suspension in my car.
To me, it would make sense from a manufacturing point to keep costs down(considerably), by not changing what works and improving areas that need it. Like if you look at what Subaru actually changed going from the GC to the GD. They stiffened up the structure, changed the wheelbase and front track. They didn't need to mess with the powerplant and other asscoiated hardware cause it worked just fine. The STi is a different beast altogether, but it still retains all the same basic mounting points on the chassis.
Just my rambling thoughts.

Without looking up specs, I'd guess the EZ30 is just a 2.0's bore and stroke with an extra two cylinders and a chain instead of a belt in a shortened block. IIRC it's only 1.5 inches longer than an EJ. Fitting it should be easy with a little radiator creativity. Wiring it would not.

Then how did Subaru use the EZ30 with the 4EAT? Different bellhousing or an adapter?
Also, there is a guy up in NC that dropped an EZ30 into his '93(?) Impreza rally car. I think he was even using the stock tranny (since the dirt would keep it from self-destructing).
The EG33 is closer in design to our engines, but the EZ30 was designed to work with the same drivetrain components.

I'd be interested to find some actual info on the ez30, not all this hearsay. if it is truely only 1.5" longer than an ej, and has a chain drive system, it sounds like one hell of an engine.
I'd also really like to know the weight of a ez30 long block, which is one of the most important measurements of a subaru motor IMHO. suby motors are ahead of the front axle for christ's sake!

It's got some pretty cool features, like variable-length intake runners and the BE-BH Outbacks they came in had a variable-flow muffler as well.
I'm not a fan of the timing chain though.

There's an ez30 fit to an impreza, to make an impreza rock-crawler. It has incredible power and torque, but it wouldn't be built for the speed that we all crave.
as others have said the ez30 is designed to fit into the space that a ej25 would occupy.
