Subs

Post by Manarius »

I have a chance to get two 12" subs for $20 each (they're sony XS-L1237's)

Question, what would I have to do to wire these into my car?

(I'm a total noob to the whole speaker thing)

1. I wouldn't buy sony subs
2. I wouldn't buy sony subs
3. if thinking about buying sony subs refer to 1 and 2.

if you really want to however you need an amp. if you dont have one or ever plan on getting one dont bother.

I also agree with #1 and #2... But to answer the question. You'll need a subwoofer enclosure (box), an amplifier, and the necessary wiring (install kit).

You'll also want a head unit that has outputs for subs. You could wire them into the stock head unit's speaker outputs, but that sounds crappy.
Course with those subs, it probably wouldn't matter.

i agree with everything said so far.
Sony subs are crap, and at 20.00 each, you should check out Ebay for about the same price you can get a lot better brand.

If you are going to be putting in subs, you need all the following:
1. A headunit with RCA outputs.
2. Subs, and a good box to mount them in (cardboard doesnt work)
3. An amp with a low pass crossover builtin
4. 20Ft or so of 8 guage wire to run from the battery to where you mount the amp.
5. Fuse for the AMPwire, omunt the fuse within 2 feet of the battery.
6. RCA wires to go from the head unit to the amp
7. a single wire for the AMP remote on, run from the headunit to the amp
8. a ground cable from the amp ground to the body.
9. and a good afternoon to tear into the dash, pull wires under the carpet to the trunk, etc.

good luck.
