EJ22T from Japan?

EJ22T from Japan?
A local engine shop claims to have a low-mileage ej22t from Japan. But I thought these were north-american market engines and that Turbo Legacy's in Japan and Asia had 2.0l engines.
Thoughts?

The only JDM 2.2 Liter Turbo engine Subaru built was the EJ22G, which was in the 22B...
So if they have a 22B engine, it might be worth snagging eh!
My vote goes for that they don't know what they are talking about

Easy enough to check, well kinda. Just look for the EJ22 on the left head under the powersteering pump area. And if it has a turbo, then its an ej22t. Maybe just not from Japan.
Reddevil, Awaiting new heart, will it ever happen?

Check if it a SOHC or DOHC, if its a SOHC then its a USDM ej22t, but if you see its a DOHC, then it will be the JDM, but make sure its real EJ22 on the block, if not ,then he just telling you thats maybe an EJ22 N/A engine. Just go to check and make sure before you go buy it!
Good luck.
Ben
Good luck.

92 Legacy turbo with EJ20G engine swap \(^0^)/
Thanks for your feedback, folks. I'll take your collective advice and check it out before buying. Also, is it easy to tell the SOHC engines apart from the DOHC's? Does it simply say so on the valve covers? Are the DOHC valve covers larger? Does anyone has any pics out there?
Finally, if it is a JDM motor, it should work fine with my Canadian ECU, right? Anything else that might need attention? Thanks,
Ken.

The DOHC timing belt covers are much larger. You can see indentations in them for each cam.

If your car is a turbo model, you might be able to get away with running the engine on your stock engine management.

Well, all EJ22T's are JDM in a way. They were all built in Japan, it's just that they were only released in the North American market. Maybe they're just being literal. But most likely they're just asshats.

Holy Guacamole! That's a big sucker! Thanks vrg3.
The extra cams make it look like it is too big to fit in the engine bay. But if it fit the 22B it'll fit the Leggy. I'm also curious if a DOHC will take the headers, up-pipe, coolant tank and everything else from the donor ej22t?
I'll be looking at it in a few hours and will post an update here tonight.

JDM Engine Place
Hey,
I'd recommend this place in Toronto:
http://www.bigjapanese.ca/
The last time I was there they had 3 JDM EJ20G complete swaps and they were "fairly" flexible on the prices. You just have to bargain with them a little bit, but in the end their stuff is the best quality that I've seen in the GTA.
Good luck,
P.
