Will this Rim and tire combo Rub??

Post by 92LgacyLS »

Im looking at buying a set of 2000 2.5 RS six spokes (16X7), and searching around the forum, the consensus is that a 205/55 will rub but a 205/50 will not.... the car in question is a 92 LS wagon converted from the air suspension using stock subaru parts. Basically im at stock ride height. In the future I plan on doing the shock/spring combo... For now though will I have a problem with the 205/55 as they come with the rims??? Any help appreciated

thanks
matt

You'll probably be fine at stock height.

I didn't rub with 205/55/16 re92s on stock suspension. The wider wheel might move the tire in slightly, though, and I was really close to the strut in the rear.

I am running the 205/55/16's on those wheels and I am dropped 3/4 inch. I rubbed until I removed the inner wheel liners. You should be ok on stock height.
Yes I have too many Subarus

I have the five spoke RS 16x7s with 225/50s (close to stock diameter, slightly wider) and it's VERY close between the rear strut body and the inside of the tire. This is on STi ver. 7 struts and springs with camber bolts in the rear set to about -0.9 degrees. Otherwise, no problem. I also have run 205/55 on stock WRX wheels without rubbing.

You should be ok, but a test drive before you commit might be a good idea.

most people wont consider letting someone test drive them.....maybe test fit, but not a test drive. ...
think about it, if you had a set of rims and wanted to sell them, and the person thought maybe they could rub, would you want your tires to have cuts and scrapes in them after they drove around and they ended up scraping all over the wheel wells or struts etc. ...or what if you smack a curb or pothole etc.

these kind of sales usually are as is, i wouldnt let someone go try out my wheels and tires to see if they rubbed..........fyi.

If you do get to test drive them, and they rub, and they rub into the tire, are you willling and prepared to buy them because you damaged them? answer please and post. I am just plain mean i guess.

Due to the large tire gap, I was under the assumption that I could basically do what I wanted without worry. I have the option to purchase some decent 18x7.5 rims at a great price and was going to put them on an SS...but would they not work at all?
