Fog/Driving Lights Installed

Well with winter coming I figured I better get my lighting sorted, I commute 100 miles a day through some pretty nasty weather. I wanted to keep it faily stock looking so this is what I came up with.



Lower set are fogs, upper are driving, the mounting position is pretty low for driving lights but I'm just looking for some fill and down low they will give less glare back in the fog and snow. I made the brackets from aluminum sheet, pic bellow in the first version, second round came out much better. I cut the diffuser out of the stock lens and cleared them (wet sand and polish method). I had to open up the holes in the bumper quite a bit to get things to fit. I had one factiory fog light switch and a spare defroster switch is working for now (anybody got a fog light switch they wanna sell?) Fuses and relays are under the hood above the left headlight. Patterns look good but I'll have to wait for some nasty weather before I'll know if the focus needs any tweeking. I've got way to much time into this setup, space was tight, but I'm very pleased with the results, best way to describe the project is... Craming 10 pounds or shit into a 5 pound bag.

Interesting idea... I was thinking of something like that but with only one set. What did you do with the blinkers?

Cool switches where did you get them? I have a lighted green toggle switch so everyone is always like "what does that do?"

Also how do you aim them and what do the beam patterns look like?

jnorion, one set would be much easier to fit in, I considered two round lights side by side but couldn't find what I needed. The signals were moved up with the corner lights (like the '92+ cars), just switched to a three wire bulb holder and 1175A bulbs. You have to open up the bulb mounting hole and a little wiring but its a pretty easy fix.

jamal, the switch on the right (driving lights) is a factory fog light switch, the one on the left (fog lights) is a spare rear defroster switch I had, I mixed up a little dark silver paint and dressed it up so it looks a little different. I'm hoping to find another factory switch soon. The light mountings have slots for left to right aim and pivot on the mount screws for up and down. Check the pics below for pattern (shown with headlights for reference). These are not high end lights (not the dirt cheapies either), but I was surprised how good that patterns are.

How did you wire the turn signals when you moved them?

I tried it a few different ways, and couldn't seem to get them to work even halfway decent.

IronMonkey, the turns use a ground and a power wire (flashing) and the markers also have a ground and a power. So I used the marker ground and the two power wires for the three wire bulb holder (two filament bulb 1157A). I left the car side harness uncut, just pulled the signal connection up to the corner light.

And when that didn’t work out as well as I’d liked I went CAD for version 2, Thats an imported and scaled scan of a lens tracing in the upper right. (I told you I had way to much time into this project, lol) I used my mill to cut out this version, I just wasn't happy with the jig saw and file work on version 1.

An old thread, but I just wanted to bump it to say that wiring the turn signals like was suggested here works great.

I just got done doing this, and it works perfect. Before I was attempting to run both the grounds, but that simply made them both the same brightness. This meant when the parking lights were on, you could hardly see the turn signals.
