Sunroof emergency, solved (now looking for part #)

Post by neonglh »

I am here using the caulking to fix my sunroof. I caulked under the rails, and then when I went to put them back down, the holes dont line up properly with the bolts. When I pulled out the rails, so that the spiral cable inside came out, i pushed it back in to re-assemble. The problem is its not going in all the way, so the rails arent all the way back.

How do I get the cabling all the way back into the rails. I need to figure this out before the silicone dries all the way!

Phew, got it. It was just tons of muscle and wiggling, but I got it. Now the window is back together, and drying. Tomroow, i'm gonna WD40 up the tracks, and then try to get it into the car in time to catch some rain and test for leaks. I'm so excited it may be fixed!

my sunroof just started leaking too. weird, it never did it this summer after i first bought the thing. i hardly used the sunroof too, but now it is leaking bad. first time i noticed it was when the car sat outside for a week and had a ton of leaves on it. every since then, its been leaking and getting worse.

what did you caulk to try and fix the leak? the OEM black sealant under the rails like said in the sticky post? I'm also assuming i can easily replace the trim/weatherstrip around the sunroof too.

I have not replaced that trim yet, but once I get a part number, or a place that sells it, I will.

And yes, I followed the sticky's directions, and removed the rails, scraped the old stuff out, caulked it, and replaced everything. It was not easy, I must say. Working with the silicone was difficult, and then getting everything to line back up and close properly was difficult.

I got it though, and now its ready to go back into the car, when I'm feeling adventurous (remember, I have a sheet metal sunroof delete panel now, this is alot more work for me, compared to others).

But, when were talking this, does anyone have the part number for the gasket that goes on the glass itself?
