Radiator shroud - DIY

Post by farfrumwork »

So, I had made a template a while ago for a radiator shroud for the SS and finally had a chance to get into our shop and whip one out.

here is a kind of poor picture

anyway, it does 95% of what a $70 piece does, but only cost me $7 (.024" Al sheet, 24"x7" or so). I cut it out with a Hyd shear, band saw, and some hand tools/files then bent it with a manual break we have, and finally painted with some ceramic engine paint I had around.

Looks nice in person - my wife didn't see it until I pointed it out (she likes the cheap mods! haha)

Who knows if I even push the cooling system enough to need such a thing, but hey it's cheap and fun to make stuff. Along with the Crucial T-stat and water wetter - this thing should never get hot!

hey man. Yeah, I need to see the new ride - looks like you've got the EJ20 in there now huh? should prove to be a blast I'm sure.

I'll try to swing by soon and take a look. We can whip out a template for a radiator shroud too while we're at it, then I can make ya one as time allows (it's usually crazy here at work).
