Has anyone heard of this company? <ECU upgrade for BC Leg
I saw that a company out of Austrailia and New Zealand does ECU upgrades for the 89-94 JDM EJ20T Legacies. I emailed them recently and they told me that they are able to upgrade the USDM EJ22T Legacy ECU. The company is called Gizzmo Electronics. They also have a website: www.gizzmoelectronics.com. The person at Gizzmo told me that the upgrade would be the same price as the EJ20T Legacy. So it would be $400AUD, that converts to $314.46USD.

Hmm....
That's very interesting. I read the blurb about the ECU "reprogramming"
Does this chip have to be soldered in?
Ideally it'd be nice to be able to tune/tweak things on a dyno. I'd feel more comfortable about that. But it does sound promising.
Does anyone know if the overseas MAF sensor is the same as ours? Do they have similar issues with maxing out their MAF voltage range?

I have heard of them, they have loads of subaru experience on there products are in demand in the places you listed, Australia, and New Zealand. I am actually looking at getting an ECU upgraded with the Gizmo chip, and was going to get the EJ20 maf to match it.

The Liberty RS EJ20T runs a different ECU then the USDM Legacy SS/Touring wagon EJ22T. I don't think the chips will work on our ECU's....

If you were reffering to me, I know. I will be getting the Legacy RS ecu, wiring harness, and maf. I have to deal with the coil-on-plug though.legacy92ej22t wrote:The Liberty RS EJ20T runs a different ECU then the USDM Legacy SS/Touring wagon EJ22T. From what I heard from thir people was that they can match the MAF and boost signals from their original EJ20T program and tweek them to an EJ22T. They want to get more USDM Legacy people so their business can grow further. Their partner company is Apex-i. I might try to ask Apex-i directly and see if they can do the same thing since they are partner companies. If they can do the upgrade through Apex-i then I dont think shipping back from down under will be that long.

I'd be interested in this if I can get the right combo. I want to run 550 cc/min injectors with a larger MAF, have a raised boost cut limit, and hell, if they can raise the stock boost level...that'd be awesome too.
The only issue though, is I still feel there would be more that can be pulled from the motor from tuning/tweaking it on a dyno.
Keep us posted on what you find out.

Gizzmoelectronics may have an untapped customer pool of some size in the USDM BC community. They may be interested in knowing how starved we are for a product like their ECU modification. If they had a good number of e-mails asking about their products that could alert them. Or would a single point of contact be more effective in communicating ouir desires?

I would spend the money right now if it was tuneable and plugged/soldered right in.
Seriously, this is what I would prefer. It's affordable and effective.
edit: Reading through the blurb, it look like it isn't user tuneable, but could probably be re-flashed by them or Apex'i.
Also, I sent them an e-mail asking for a few more details.

That's the response I just got from them.Hi,
We haven’t done one of these before (USDM that is) but have done facelift legacy’s. I really need a pic of the inside of the ECU in order to commit to being able to upgrade it. We can supply the upgrade with fitting instructions that can be carried out by a TV/Radio repair shop (about a ½ hour job). It is not tuneable or flash programmable. An alternative solution would be to look for a WRX PowerFC which will plug straight in,
Cheers,
