Anyone here using the Crucial Racing 160 degree F. Thermostat???
Iam considering it because if it locks it sticks in the OPEN position therby protecting the engine from an overheating condition rather than a std. thermostat which sticks in the closed position.

Yeah.....I'd probably recommend sticking to OEM. The fuel enrichment curves are adjusted via coolant temp, so if your coolant temps are inconsistent, or lower, you may see an increase in fuel usage, which again, too much fuel can wash the cylinders of oil, and cause premature wear.

I've had the Crucial T-Stat for over a year and a half.
There have been no adverse effects. Or really any noticeable effects at all.... which is the way it should be. Same mileage, drivability, heat up time, etc... Lots of wrx owners have used them for quite a while now. It's just meant to keep the whole system at a lower initial starting point, therefore it has more headroom under high demand. It should (theoreticaly) have a slight effect on charge temps (engine is cooler), and keep your oil cooler as well (emphirical evidence has been provided in some threads (on nasioc) by track guys who monitor their vitals to this end).
Stock is 172F, Crucial's is 160F. 12F is not much really.
It is overpriced for what you get... most other cars can get low temp t-stats for like $12
but their customer service is top notch. To this point, low temp t-stats have been employed my many a vehicle for a long time now. And an added benifit that siouxbe metioned is that it fails OPEN, not closed like OEM.
I also run ~60/40 H2O/antifreeze with about half a bottle of water-wetter.
It's not a necessity at all, but it is all the little things added together that make a car great (hopefully).
