Fuel injector removal and cleaning

Post by schspeedster »

Injectors get cruddy and o-ring seals deteriorate after 12+ years. Have an intermittent hard cold start problem around 40F, even after replacing temp sensor, once in a while have to crank a minute, finally starts with unburned fuel odor.

If they are as easy to pull as they look from the outside, would like to try bench cleaning them, then replace the O-rings. Any good DIY techniques or sources for O-rings? Does the tank pickup screen need cleaning while the fuel system is opened up?

If they are difficult to pry out of the fuel rail, will just have to spend $100 and bring the injectors to the pros. Have brought GM injectors here for ultrasonic cleaning, got them back with new screens, O-rings, and a printout of spray pattern test results:

The injectors can sort of be a pain to remove, but can be done yourself. As for o-rings....I don't really have any suggestions.

For the tank pickup screens....don't bother....

I'd still recommend a professional cleaning and balancing.
