I am really excited about the formation of this group. Timing couldn't
be beter for me. Here is a rundown of my car:
92 sedan, mica ruby 5-speed 133k miles. KYB-AGX struts, Mitsubishi
turbo from Japanese EJ20G. Old style WRX intercooler hand-built hood
scoop that looks similar to wrx. K&N filter in stock box. Custom 3"
downpipe 3" mild steel exhaust pipe with 18" X 3" i.d. street rod
glass pak APEXi AVC-R boost controller GReddy boost limitercut
controller. Cyberdine air/fiel gauge VDO boost gauge Dunlop SP8000
205/55 15 summer tires winter tires on stock rims
Valentine One Uniden Bear Tracker. Denso Iridium plugs.
My car mades a noise that sounds like a boost leak, but I can't find
it. ECU codes repeatedly show knock sensor and atmospheric pressure
sensor. I've changed bboth and it makes no difference. It runs okay
for daily use, but something just isn't right. It will eat a stock RS,
but not by much. I took it to a reputable auto electric shop and they
toldd me that cylinder #2 is down about 40 psi and lowby is what is
causing my sensor problems. The car has never used a drop of oil and it
doesn't smoke at all. I will probably get a second opinion from a
dealer.
Assuming that the engine is tired and.the problem is rings, I can throw
in either an EJ22T or an EJ20G. I want to change my tranny at the same
time, as I found a synchro keeper on the drain plug this summer and it
gives me a snick when shifting from fourth to third.
I keep hearing about Supeerchips modified ECUs (Lee Shadbolt runs one),
but every time I have contacted Superchips, they say they will put in an
overboost cheater circuit, but that's all they do. If I drop in an
EJ20G, I want to be sure that I am meeting it with an appropriate ECU.
Well, that's what's on my mind today. Let's hear from somebody.
Bill Robinson.

Bill Robinson's Dilemma
Welcome Will.
You've got a hell of a Turbo there!
I'd be hard pressed to think that a cylinder is gone with less than
150k miles, especially if you're not losing any oil. My turbo always
has a whistle, that's just the way it's supposed to sound i suppose.
In reading reviews of the turbos the whistle is mentioned a few times
throughout.
I'd have it tested by another shop of just get a compression tester
and do it yourself.
As for the swap, a full front to back is probably in line. I'd call
SPD and see what is involved. Mike has basically done this to his
Impreza so he's in the know about these things.
Consider the Tec-II from Vishnuperformance as a replacment and
enhancement of all of the stuff you've got right now. Sure it's
$2500 but it'll do an ungodly amount of stuff and i'm sure you can
get a few bucks from your parts. Just a thought.
I'm dying for some pics of your car to put on Turbo-Centric!

Bill Robinson's Dilemma
Ben: Until I can get to the specifics of wiring etc., here's some
preliminary info...Mount your stepper motor with Goop adhesive on the
plastic lid of your ABS brain, on the passenger side between the fender and
engine. It does not need to be grounded. Find the rubber grommet through
the firewall down by the driver's feet. Get a tube of Outdoor Goop or
Marine Goop to eseal te hle in the rubber boot. You will pass your wires
through from near the driver's feet and out under the brake booster can.
Give me a fax number and/or a snail mail address and I'll send you a
diagram. I like to use a little project box and a little terminal strip to
do the connections. I'll be in touch. Do you have the instructions that
come with the AVC-R??

Bill Robinson's Dilemma
Hi Bill, yep, I have all the marnal and installation insturstion book
with the unit. Just don't know where should the pressure senser go! I
was thinking should I run the pressure senser from the manifold, or
jam to the same vaccum line that sends to the boost solenoid?
I don't think the ECU wire is hard to find since I got all the
diagarm.
And also the set-up of the unit, Can I do it by myself or should I
bring someone with me while doing the turning?
Well, I don't know I will put the factory oil cooler or not, depands
on how much it cost!
