X-Drill or Slot or X-Drill with slot?

Post by Ben Lam »

I think it time to change my Bembro X-drill front rotor. Since many
people told me that the slot rotor is better then X-drill rotor, is
thats true?
Now I have thinking to take my bembro rotor to slot it at the machine
shop but would I ask them to do Slot with X-drill or just slot, I
don't think I will just do X-drill since my current rotor is X-drill
and I would like try it with the EBC green stuff pads!
Please give me some advice!!
Thanks guys!

X-Drill or Slot or X-Drill with slot?

Hey Ben, I too had Brembro X-drilled, with a carbon metallic pad. That was
a good setup, the brakes weren't stellar cold, but I didn't care. There was
NO brake fade, which was what I liked, they performed better after getting
them heated up. Yet the longevity of that setup had something to be
desired....I think I got year and a half of running before I noticed
warpage, the car wasn't run that much, because I was in college, I can try
and get mileage numbers if you want. But the big thing I think, was that
there was too many holes for how small a rotor it was. So the heat
dissipation compared to material that was available to dissipate heat wasn't
matched....so...I would personally get a set of slotted rotors, you're not
removing much material, yet you gain the benefits of the slots, Which is to
remove the build up a brake pad gasses between the rotor and pad. If anyone
can find these for subies....I'd definitely get them, ATE Power Discs. The
slotted pattern is in the shape of two oval shapes that criss cross one
another. It's a really cool design, I'll try and find a pic.

But to answer your question directly, I would not bother slotting your
current rotors, unless you just got them, but then you're removing more
material which is bad. So I would just buy a new set of slotted, or just
wait until you nuke these rotors.

X-Drill or Slot or X-Drill with slot?

Post by Ben Lam »

Hi Joah, thanks for your reply, I think I just let you misunderstand,
I just got a set of new bembro plan disc and should I bring it to a
machine shop to do a slot for me?
Or I just make a slot with x-drill in the new disc??
Thanks again for your opinion!
BTW, does there are any good or bad to let the machine to do the slot
to the new rotor?

Well I would probably just do the slotting. There shouldn't be anything bad
with doing it to new rotors, since that is what is done anyway if the
manufacture does it.

If I still didn't answer your question let me know....

Josh
