I get a grinding sound when i turn tight like a u turn

get the car up in the air and spin all the wheels and see if there is any brake drag. Then turn the wheels and spin them, see if there is any tension. Sounds like the differential possibly, if there is no oil of course ;)

Only when you turn? I'd call it an axle.

Or possibly a wheel bearing. If it's just starting to go, it would only grind when put under high load.

I bet it's an axle and I highly doubt it would up and fail in 30 minutes of driving.

I had a lovely grinding noise last week after turning out of a parking spot. Got out to look and my right wheel was grinding against the wheel well! Turned out someone had stripped the bolt that went through the knuckle. This caused the pinch bolt for lower ball joint to fail and it popped out of knuckle. Good thing that didn't fail while I was driving down the highway...
