Bill Robinson's new e-mail

Post by William D. Robinson »

Howdy Y'all

My ISP (ior) is going TU, so I switched to Mindspring. my new e-mail is
vultureboy@mindspring.com. For the curious, "vultureboy" refers to my
best known alter ego in my home town. About seventeen years ago I built
a giant (10'tall x16' across the wings) turkey vulture costume for
Halloween and it has become somewhat of a minor local celebrity. I get
roped into making appearances at parades and special events. Anyway,
throw away my old billrob@ior.com and please insert my new e-mail
address. I am a big (240lbs) fan of this users group and I don't want
to miss any of you. Here's what's new with my car....

I have been plagued with ECU error codes, sounds of boost leaks and poor
performance, ever since I put the bigger Mitsubishi turbo on my car. I
took it off one of my EJ20G engines. I took my old WRX intercooler on
and off a dozen times and pressure tested it, while isolating other
variables such as the stock BOV and my fancy Aussie TurboX adjustable
BOV. Everything pressure tested just fine, but my car still sucked. I
had been teasing Honda boys on the local cruising strip, so my ego was
badly bruised by limping around. The new, bigger turbo has a bigger
outlet and points at a different angle than stock, so I no longer had
the option of using my stock turbo-to-intercooler pipe as a test pipe.
I fashioned a new test pipe out of a cut-up stock pipe and some aluminum
tubing and silicone 90 degree els. The test pipe eliminated my boost
leak sound and the car got a lot perkier right away. A local mechanic
suggested that at 133k miles I might be carboned up and preigniting on
carbon, so I ran a can of Sea Foam brand miracle-tiger-pee-in-a-can
decarboniser through the PCV port until I killed the engine (as per the
instructions), let it sit for five minutes, then started it up. The
fumes from this process are out of this world! I still have error codes
22 (knock) 45 (atmospheric pressure sensor) and lately 49 (MAP sensor)
but my car runs a lot better and I fear no Honda jockey. I am operating
on the theory that the angles of my homemade intercooler pipe and
homemade blow-off pipe were a source of other-worldly whistle and
extreme turbulence. I am currently trying to find an extremely tight 90
degree 3/4" barb fitting, which I will have heli-arc welded to the tank
of my old WRX intercooler so that blow-off will leave through a
non-turbulent place. I am having trouble finding a tight 90 degree
aluminum barb fitting. I may silicone sealer glue in a rubber PCV bung,
but I would prefer aluminum. That's all the news that's fit to print.

Hi Bill,

You can look here to see if these guys have any hardware you could make
work: http://www.mcmaster.com/ , insert this # in the "Product search"
box: "43485k121", mark "in our index" and click "Find" it will take you to
the next screen, now click "Catalog Page" to get to the parts, aluminum pipe
fittings on the top of the page and aluminum Butt-Weld fittings on the
bottom.

Good Luck :)
