Who here is running an Ej20 on an Ej22T ECU?

Headlights to tailights and everything in between.

Who here is running an Ej20 on an Ej22T ECU?

Post by Matt Monson »

I am thinking about throwing one of my Ej20's into my car. I know I wouldn't get optimum performance from going with the Ej22T ECU, but was just curious about how it runs? Issues you encountered with this approach?

I have an under the manifold inlet and manifold along with the mounting for the wated spark, so that isn't an issue. I am mostly worried about overfueling at idle or part throttle as it rolls into boost because of the larger injectors on the Ej20's. Any thoughts?

And I am talking about JDM early Ej20's, so cam and crank sensors and gears aren't an issue. I wouldn't try this with an EJ205...

I'm running the 20g on 22t, but I've got different heads and injectors, so I'm not sure if I can verify your exact setup, but afaik, I haven't had too many issues with fueling or anything.

I was hoping that it wouldn't be too big of an issue. Sounds like it isn't. I have this gutt feeling that the oil pump on my EJ22T is on it's last legs. I hate doing timing belts and oil pumps with the engine in the car. IF, I am going to pull the engine, I figure, why not throw my 65k mi Ej20G in there. I could set it up with either stock plumbing and a TD04 or Ej20K plumbing and a VF29. Eventually, I will get around to wiring it for the JDM ECU, but I didn't want the car down for more than a weekend. This way, I can put in the Ej20 and then in a bit when I have some more time to fiddle, I can do the wiring for the other ECU...

I have an addendum to add to this idea. I think I am going to run this engine on E85. The greater capacity of the injectors, coupled with the E85 should make for a pretty good set up. I know one guy running an 1990 Ej22e on E85. I am pretty sure he used the Ej22t pink tops for his set up. This Ej20 set up should be similar...

I saw an Evo make 698whp on E85...

I asked him what he did to make all the power, and he said just lots of boost and timing

Yeah,
One of our local Colorado tuners is running E85 on his WRX/STI hybrid and is setting up a lot of cars to do the same. We are kind of a hot bed for E85 tuning so it seemed logical to explore it. I am also thinking about going E85 on my 914 w/Webers...
