GR-2's lifted my car 2"

Post by HellBinder »

I pulled four GR-2's from a 91 awd wagon and just installed the rears when i put in my new gas tank, now the car sits about 2 inches taller, its not a problem i just wasent expecting that much of a difference, the struts also have a different type of spring on them other than my oem ones, they are cone shapped, narrow at the top and wider at the bottom. layed out side my side they are the same height as my old stuts and i had a hell of a time getting them in. now that their in they dont rub and clear everything so im happy.
good thing is i dont have to modify them with a hammer to make them clear my 225's

So far ive only got the on and i'll do the front this morning and get some pics and vids up.
Has anyone else had this problem or have a better explanation for it other than "your orignial struts sucked"

At the top of this forum, there's a thread that lists all of the differences. Simple answer is the lower perch on the rear 91 struts is higher.

The lower perch is the same shape though.

SO, you can use 04WRX (tapered) lowering springs to bring it to a reasonable height.

Jamal has gone over this a lot, so posts by him would be relevant to you.

Actually I wasn't really sure what the deal is with GR2s, just that there are all sorts of different perch heights or something.

Anyway,

http://bbs.legacycentral.org/viewtopic.php?t=17352

that combined with 90-91 = tapered rear springs
and 92-94 = not tapered

92-94 springs are shorter in the front and taller in the rear apparently.

That should cover it I think.
