ROTORS

Post by Josh Colombo »

Ok...here's the thing on the rotors.....(I should have the nickname "The Rotor Killer") hahaha

alright...I am now on my THIRD set of rotors for my 90 Legacy...now that's just as long as I've owned it @ 80k...it now has 140k....when I got it...not soon after the rotors got warped...I had them turned...got new pads along with that...semi metallics...they were alright for 2 1/2 years..something like that....Then they were warped AGAIN....I decided I was tired of this...So I bought Brembo Cross-drilled rotors....WELL about a year and half later....they were warped...and I actually got someone to turn them....well that was the beginning of the summer...by the end...I could just barely feel them starting to warp AGAIN...well this past summer....I put NEW STOCK Subaru rotors on with PBR metal master pads. So far so good. I haven't really romped on them...they seem to have broken in nicely. I will have to do some major stops to see how the REALLY perform...but that's more brakes..not rotors...

OK OK...after ALL that...I'll give you MY recommendation. If you're not looking to spend an exorbitant amount of money. I would just buy another set of stock Subaru rotors. The turbo's are larger BTW... If you have money burning a hole in your pocket. Get Slotted rotors, NOT cross-drilled. Unless your runnin auto cross or racing, you won't really notice a difference...and the slotted will last longer...the slots' main purpose is to vent brake gas away from rotor for better contact. The cross-drilled also do the same...and aid a little in cooling...BUT will not last as long

I hope you got some info out of my ramblings...(long day) need any more help or brake stories :) just holler

Josh

Subject: [BC-BFLegacyWorks] I did it!

Well, several weeks on, I've gotten as far into my 90K tune-up as I expect to. I replaced the fuel filter (w/Bosch), pulled some manky looking "Autolite" plugs out, installed NGK "V-Power" plugs, and installed a K&N filtercharger. My 93 5-speed TURBO sedan is running better and maybe even sounding a little better! Thanks for the pointers- they made replacing the plugs and fuel filter doable for a guy who had never even changed his own oil (the local oil&filter change is only $14- no labor charge!).

Now, does anyone have any recommendations for reasonably-priced performance rotors? Mine are in pretty rough shape (thanks, I think, to improperly torqued wheels), and I'd prefer to upgrade rather than replace worn parts when feasable.

Thanks-
marc
