valve rocker assembly torque
I'm going to bleed all my lifters tomorrow to get rid of my horrible tick, and was wondering if any of you guys knew if i need to worry too much about torquing down the rocker assembly. I have the whole service procedure, and it tells me to torque the bolts to first 3.6, then 9 ft-lb, but the problem is i don't have a torque wrench at home to use... would it be alright to just use my best judgment in tightening them, or does it have to be very precise?

generally its good practice to get them perfect but... if your pretty expierenced with wrenching. i just uses one hand with my 3/8 drive ratchet and tighten stuff that way. but it cant be a bad investment to go buy a torque wrench

Get a torque wrench. That's one set of bolts that I would follow the exact pattern and tension...

I would agree with Matt, if you can afford the torque wrench it is a very good investment.
I did mine two weeks ago and tightened them all in sequence then loosened them and torqued them and they have been fine i did mine to 110 in/lbs which really didn't seem that much.

I have this one and the 1/2" version. The 1/2" version is like $12 now.... I happen to like both better than my craftsmen 3/8" one....
You get a more reassuring click, and they dont feel like crap either.... PLUS, lifetime warranty.... Craftsmen is 60 days...

good news- found a buddy willing to loan me his torque wrench. just gotta wait till i get paid so i can get me some valve cover gaskets (mine on the right side are hooorible- came out in 4 pieces) and i can finally get rid of this tick. should it go right away after bleeding or will it take a little driving? anything else except just straight bleeding i should do while the valve cover's already off?
buddy's torque wrench didn't go down far enough for those bolt's torques... so i just winged it. tightened everything till it stopped, ran the car for a little to let everything seat/move around a little ripped it back open end tightened everything as much as it would go in little increments in the right bolt pattern so everything should be ok. had it in higher rpms a lot yesterday and no weird noises so it seems all is well. oh yeah, reason i had really loud lifer noise is that one took a shit, was stuck all the way in and wouldn't go out at all... had to take a trip to autozone for another one.
on another note, autozone is retarded. they price the lifters individually but only sell them in packs of 4
had to talk to the manager to get them to sell me just one b/c hell if i'm paying ~50$ for stuff i don't need\
edit: ordered that harbor freight wrench and a paint gun.. lets see where this goes
