leaking heater

Post by badhuis »

Must be a heater leak: bad coolant-smell through the vents when the heater is past the cold section.
And the coolant level is dropping slowly - not fast.

Q: can the heater radiator be replaced by itself? Or can only the combined evaporator / heater unit be replaced?
I am asking because someone offered me a heater from a car without AC. Looking at the diagrams it seems the heater radiator itself could well be the same unit. Correct?

Oh, car is a 1993 GX 2.2 auto estate with AC.

Thanks
Dion

Yes, the heater core can be replaced by itself. It is a pain in the butt to replace it though. You nearly have to take apart the entire dash.
