My temp was creeping up when not moving, probably due to the fact the turbo radiator from my parts car was so full of crap, it wasn't efficient.

The dude in brown came by today, and left this with me. Its a little larger than expected, but I should be able to make it fit with my homemade lower support and slim fans. It has a little bit lower fins per inch, so it shouldn't get so damn plugged up.

This is the second to last thing I did on the cheap that ended biting me in the ass. Now I just need a steering rack that doesn't leak :roll:

i went Koyo and havent had any problems. i wanted that radiator...

Well its in, but it wasn't easy. I had to rework all my fan mounting and make new lower brakets. She's a tight fit, but work great. No more creeping temps at idle.

you realize that the engine does rock around quite a bit and could hit the fans etc.?

What was that meant for?

That's pretty sad if that's what the direct replacement for our cars fits like.

He has an intercooler in front of his radiator, so it moves the radiator closer to the motor...

I have Group N engine and tranny mounts, plus poly on the tranny crossmember. There is about 3/4" clearance at the closest spot, so I should be OK. I was running with that amount of cleance when I made a fan shroud to try and aleviate my cooling issues without any trouble, even with a serious launch or two.

This radiator would fit like a glove on a stock car. Everything you need is there. Since the overflow bottle mounts to the fan shroud, you'd be set. Since I'm not using factory fans, I was SOL, hense all the work.


This thing is actually larger than all the Koyo's my buddies have on their STi's. Its a monster thats for shure. One thing I like is it has less fins per inch than the turbo radiator, so it will not get full of crap over time, which is why my SS radiator wasn't working for me. It was $40 more than a factory replacement so it was a no-brainer. There are actually zero OEM SS radiators availible from SOA. The last one was sold at Minnetonka Subaru here in MN, apparently. Identical Koyos are availible, as are these.

I did notice the added weight on the nose of the car though. But I notice all these little nuances. My brakes were phenominal until I added a turbo, fmic, 6mt, and all that crap. You gotta give a little to get a little.

My radiator hoses are shortened to make up for it. A deer took out my AC, so I said screw it, and made my IC so nobody would ever notice it. Some people don't with the hood open, :smt017

And what application is that radiator actually for?

Can you do me a favor and give me the height, width, and depth measurements of it (if you took them)?

That might be the setup I'll need for my low-exposure setup.

I've known guys who keep an un-fanned Koyo in the trunk (running lines up to the motor) and have cooler than stock coolant temps.

My boss, however, noticed something interesting. Lower than stock coolant temps in his WRX, but the needle on the gauge read 55 to 60% hot vs. the stock at straight 50%. It was wild.

The radiator is actually for the turbo Legacy. It'd fit like a glove in the stock location.

I also found this the next night on ebay. From the diagram it looks like all aluminum. Their stock number is the same as mine, 1819, but their description of the core doesn't match. hmmmmmm

Ok measurements: 29 1/2" wide x 16 1/2" tall x 2 3/8" deep. This doesn't include the hose nubs, which stick out 1" on each side.

The fans are ebay specials. They were, I wanna say, $60 for the pair. They are 2 1/2" thick, which includes the little nub on the motor backing plate. They seems similar to PROCOMP fans on ebay, but the blades are straight. I think SPAL's are 2.12" thick, if you feel like springing for them.

my girlfriend finaly found out that i spent more money and time on my car then her. she was kind pist to say the least.

What do your ebay fans flow CFM wise? I'm going to need all the space I can get, but I don't mind trimming a little if I need to.

A Turbo Legacy radiator might be exactly what I need.

I *think* its around 1200cfm, but it can't remember exactly and you can take that with a grain of salt. They do move a decent amount of air, but they are limited by their slimness. I think those ones I posted with the curved blades could possibly flow more, but I dunno. If I were to do it over again, I'd run a 14" and a 10." Hindsight is 20/20 ya know. I haven't gotten over 200 degrees since installing the radiator and an OEM subaru thermostat, and I've seen about 90 ambient. The Napa thermostat was a complete joke!

What size fans did you get, and why would you run a 14 and a 10?

I want to run as large a fan as possible, maximum airflow is extremely crucial with my limited frontal exposure.

I've got a pair of 12's. They were the largest I could fit being the same size. I have them offset a bit, and it helps, I think. There is definately hotter air coming out of the bottom of the radiator.

I'd run a 14 and a 10 (or a 12 if it can fit) just so at least one fan covers the the radiator top to bottom, and then the other near the bottom since more coolant seems to flow down there. I wish I had room to build a shroud so the fans could pull air throughout the whole radiator, but space is at a bit of a premium. Maybe I'll get one 14" fan and if it has to hang over the endtank a little, that'd prob be fine. I'd like to experiment more with it, but I've spent enough on this thing since I got it running, and I need to chill out a bit, after I rebuild that LSD I have sitting here of course. :roll:


So what kind of scheme are pondering?
