Just need something to stop the headgaskets from sliding out of place while I mount the head... the original pegs had to be removed to machine the block surface.
Get those dowels back in the engine. The dowels locate the head and block, the bolts clamp the head and block What the headgasket is doing, the head could be doing. You'd be foolish to not have the dowels put back in the engine.
The pins locate the head, the bolts have clearance around them, just clamping the head to the block with gasket between will not keep things in places.

No matter how broke I am... I always seem to find two cents.
yea you gotta have those pins. or that head wont be perfectly like it should. if you go to a machine shop they should extras im sure you can buy. and they are a super tight fit. they dont look or feel like they fit properly
