Heads, valves, pistons, rods, crankshaft, etc...

Safe to use hi-tack on headgaskets?

Post by Splinter »

Just need something to stop the headgaskets from sliding out of place while I mount the head... the original pegs had to be removed to machine the block surface.

I actually used a gasket spray that was super tacky and have had no issues with the head gaskets...

I think Doug also uses gasket spray on his head gaskets....

WHOA!

Get those dowels back in the engine. The dowels locate the head and block, the bolts clamp the head and block What the headgasket is doing, the head could be doing. You'd be foolish to not have the dowels put back in the engine.

Yes, what he said... WHOA!

The pins locate the head, the bolts have clearance around them, just clamping the head to the block with gasket between will not keep things in places.

Transmission case bolts have the same thread pitch as the head studs, think it'd be ok to use a short bolt and a washer to press the dowels in?

If a machine shop doesnt have them, it wouldnt take much to make them... Throw a piece of tube on a lathe....
