Hey guys-
Because of today's bizarre weather (60 degrees, rain & thunder in the northeast), I had the defroster/defogger on periodically to clear the windshield. However, whenever I turned on one of the AC functions (AC, Def, Def/Heat), an odd rattling/rumbling sound would come from the other side of the firewall, accompanied by a noticeable drop off in power. Later, as I was listening more closely, I noticed a "grrrwhrrr <pause> grrrwhrrr <pause> grrrwhrrr <pause>" noise, speeding up and slowing down with RPM (regardless of gear), with a corresponding intermittent drop in power. While I haven't looked under the hood for anything odd (it was pouring out), I think that there might be something dying in the AC unit, causing it to slow or seize, slowing the motor via the belt. Any ideas, experiences, or estimates (ouch)? This is such a bummer, and I don't want to be damaging my car.
