Spring suggestions for minimal drop but stiffer rate

Post by Bane »

I've gone through the compendium (which is awesome guys)

i used to run a set of wrx sedan springs and struts, but found after 2 years, and a lot of mileage, the rear was shot, which in turn was causing a lot of rubbing on the 18's whenever i had rear passengers

decided to use KYB GR-2's, with the stock legacy springs, in an effort to go back to the proper setup.

so the rubbing has stopped and driving feels much better over rough roads... i am curious now about high speed driving on the highways... i find that it feels a little "jiggly", i'm assuming this has something to do with either the older springs having a weaker spring rate, or their age.

is anyone running the Eibach, Tein Medium, or H & R springs?

if so did you find the stock height stayed (compendium doesn't indicate a drop)?

does the ride become uncomfortable over rough roads?

okay, i had some time for a little research.

eibach doesn't have a set for legacy, just 2.5RS
Tein and Whitelines websites aren't responding

H & R has a set, that drops it 1.2" in front and 1" in rear, i'd be afraid of rubbing or bottoming out!

as it stands now the rear is just shy of 2" between tire and fender, wouldn't lowering this to below an 1" of travel space kill my tire?!

or are the spring rates going to make that much of a difference?

anyone have these mounted?

I'm running Eibach ProKit springs ('04 WRX) with AGX on my '91. With the struts set at 2 front, 4 rear (min. KYB recomends with lower springs) the ride is firm but not overly harsh, just what I was looking for but you notice the pot holes. Ride hight droped about 2" and 1 1/2" rear, and leveled my car out nicely (rear was sagging). I'm running WRX wheel and tires so that raised the hight back up about a 1/2" and tucked the tries up to the top of the wheel opening quite nicely. I cut about 1/3 off the bump stops (KYB says 1/2 max.) and I dont think I have ever bottomed out the struts. I'm very happy with the setup.

Thanks for the reply Gary...

my big concern is the rears, as i have 18x7.5 rims, that don't tuck up inside the wheel well... guess i'll have to look at rolling the fenders... was hoping to avoid that if possible.
